Abu Dhabi A ’Desirable Destination’ Says Air France

A senior delegation of Air France executives gave Abu Dhabi’s tourism potential a huge vote of confidence following a familiarisation tour of the UAE capital in advance of the airline’s planned launch of flights from Charles de Gaulle airport this May.

"Abu Dhabi features a lot of attractions and enjoys a variety of major assets that make it one of the most desirable destinations in the Gulf region," Francois Michel, Air France Africa and Middle East Manager for French Market explained.

During the tour, organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) the delegation visited Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque - one of the world’s largest and most impressive, the opulent Emirates Palace and the Saadiyat Island Cultural District Exhibition in Gallery One within the landmark hotel. They then took a Yellow Boat tour of Abu Dhabi’s expansive coastline to the emerging Yas Island entertainment destination and the iconic Yas Hotel - the only one in the world straddling a Formula 1 race track.

"The Air France flights bring us substantial benefit in not only increasing capacity from France, which is one Abu Dhabi’s top 10 source destinations for hotel guests, but from the its extensive route network which is particularly strong throughout north, south, eastern and central Europe as well as North Africa," said Ahmed Hussein, Deputy Director General, ADTA.

"In the run up to the launch of the Air France Abu Dhabi service we will be working closely with the carrier in further boosting awareness of the destination throughout the carrier’s route network and will be hosting significant media and trade delegations from France to sample our expanding attractions." Last year, 34,881 French nationals featured among Abu Dhabi’s hotel guest performance, making the country the destination’s sixth largest international source market.
