Abu Dhabi International Airport Records Double-Digit Passenger, Cargo And Aircraft Movement Growth In January

Aircraft movements up by 13.3%. Passengers travel increases by 11.2%. Cargo boosted by 25.6%.

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) today released its January 2010 traffic report for Abu Dhabi International Airport, which shows the total number of passengers travelling through the airport grew by 11.2% over the same month last year; correspondingly, aircraft movements increased by 13.3% and cargo saw a significant rebound, up 25.6% over the same period.

World class conferences and exhibitions in Abu Dhabi, such as the recent World Future Energy Summit, continue to support passenger loads along with the expanding network and frequencies of Etihad Airways and the new airlines ADAC welcomed in 2009. Cargo loads saw significant increases during January, with a large volume of aid sent to Haiti credited with boosting this figure.

Continuing its top-ranking of 2009, London remained the airport’s busiest destination in January followed by Bangkok and Doha. Manila and Bahrain came in fourth and fifth place respectively.

Ahmad Al Haddabi, Senior Vice-President Airports Operations at ADAC, said: “Having withstood the global challenges of the world economy and the aviation industry in 2009, by demonstrating a 7.3% growth, the results of the first month of 2010 show that demand for air travel to and from Abu Dhabi is returning to double-digit growth figures. Encouraged by this pace of expansion, we are continuing at the same time to enhance our airport services and terminal facilities for all our airline partners, passengers and customers so as to create one of the best airport experiences in the region”
