It was a big day yesterday for Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi with two amateur teams competing in the annual Abu Dhabi Triathlon. After months of training both teams completed the race, finishing at a respectable 36th & 51st out of their category. Both teams were extremely proud of their accomplishments.
The triathlon, which attracted more than 800 athletes from 30 countries, featured two courses. The one for the 700 amateur competitors included a 1.5km swim, a 100km bike ride and a 10km run. For the professionals, among them 75 world-class tri-athletes, the distances were doubled.
Mr Patrick Wimble (Commercial Director) from IHG Corporate Office in Dubai, was delighted to be apart of this momentous occasion with Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi, competing in the cycling leg of the race. They celebrated with a well earned 36th place finish! All that training certainly paid off and he is looking forward to beating his time next year!
“It was fantastic,” said Mr Charl Reze, Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi’s Pastry Chef “Due to a collision in the swimming leg of the race (which handicapped us to start last in the cycle) we managed to come in 51st by overtaking 6 other teams!” he proudly announced. His favourite part of the race was cycling along Yas Marina Circuit and onto the Formula One track.
The Corniche was teeming with hundreds of spectators, many of them supporting friends and family members who were taking part.
Everyone agreed it was a fantastic event and they are very much looking forward to participating in the race next year … in James Young’s words... I’m definitely hooked!
