Abu Dhabi University Promotes Cultural Heritage To Young Emiratis Through Traditional Sports

University sponsors fifth race of Al Shindagha Finals

The Abu Dhabi University (ADU), one of the leading local private higher education providers in the UAE, is supporting the country’s efforts of promoting cultural heritage by encouraging young Emiratis to engage in traditional sports.

ADU, which is sponsoring the fifth race of the Final Festival of Al Shindagha Race to be held at the Jebel Ali Race Course (JAR), believes in the importance of traditional sports such as horse racing in the development of the spirit of competition amongst UAE nationals.

Speaking at a press conference at the Jebel Ali Race Course to announce the final race of the season, His Excellency Ali Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of ADU, indicated that horse racing events are ideally suited to represent to the younger generation some of the important values of the UAE.

Al Dhaheri applauded His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, for giving ADU an opportunity to participate in the final race of the Al Shindagha Race. He also thanked His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security and Chairman of the Jebel Ali Racecourse (JAR) for hosting the races.

“The Abu Dhabi University continues to be a forerunner in bringing quality learning and education to the UAE. We strive for the proper intellectual development of our students by encouraging them to take part in all types of sporting activities, in order to encourage the principle of ‘a healthy body equals a healthy mind’,” Al Dhaheri said.

“Our mission is to produce global leaders who understand the challenges of our time and make positive contributions to national and global prosperity. Our mission is not limited to educating students but also to transforming the UAE into a vibrant, prosperous and strong nation,” he added.

The final race meeting, due to be held on Friday 19th March, is supported by a number of leading local companies and international institutions including ADU, Roma Capannelle (Hippo Group), one of the most prestigious stables in Italy, and the ‘Rotary Club’ VIP Club of Dubai World Trade Center.

The JAR Organising Committee has established a number of facilities inside the racecourse in order to cope with the huge number of horse racing enthusiasts that are expected to attend, and has likewise allocated a large number of awards including a total of AED65,000 in prize money and a total of 20,000 gifts.

Entrance is free to all, and Al Dhaheri said the ADU will encourage its 4000-plus students to travel to Dubai to attend the races, and enjoy the activities of the day. "We are proud to be associated with Jebel Ali Race Course and we are confident the day will be a great success," he said.
