Lashings Cricket Team ’Bowled Over’ By Saadiyat Beach Golf Club

Swapping Ducks for Birdies at the TDIC-Developed Golf Destination

If ever proof were needed that cricket and golf attract the same type of sportsmen, members of the world famous Lashings World XI Cricket Team (www.lashings.com) took time out from their recent Abu Dhabi visit to sample the newly opened Saadiyat Beach Golf Club – the Arabian Gulf’s first beachfront course.

Lashings played three fixtures during the Emirates Palace Cricket Festival, which lasted from March 23 to March 30. The self-styled "world’s greatest cricket club" has attracted a number of famous international cricketers over its 25 year history including Richie Richardson (former captain of the West Indian cricket team), Brian Lara (the only batsman to have ever scored a hundred, a double century, a triple century, a quadruple century and a quintuple century in first class games over the course of his career) and Gordon Greenidge (the West Indies selection committee for Test matches). Its most unusual "capture" was former English women’s cricket team captain, Clare Connor.

Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, with its Gary Player-designed course, is one of the world’s most captivating golfing projects. It features several beach-front holes, with about one-third of the course commanding spectacular views of the Gulf’s glittering, crystal waters fringed by pristine white sands. Each hole has a unique character, from the creation of an aquatic habitat, to the introduction of salt-water lagoons. The course has been designed with strict environmental guidelines and sensitivity to the surrounding natural environment.
