Zayed University Launched "United In Responsibility" Volunteering Campaign











Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, announced today at a press conference held at the University’s Abu Dhabi campus the launch of the "United in Responsibility" volunteering and fundraising campaign which will be carried out by 30 students from Zayed University’s Dubai campus.

The campaign starts next Thursday (April 8) and aims to increase awareness on the importance of active participation in voluntary and charity work and instill the culture of philanthropy for the benefit of individuals and the community, through providing support and assistance to Al Halat Primary School in Fujairah in updating the school’s buildings, classes, and science and computer laboratories, in collaboration with several community institutions including Emirates NBD Bank, EMAAR Properties, East Coast Contracting and Trading, Fujairah Building Industries (FBICO), Desert Group and several philanthropists from the UAE.

Commenting on the campaign, Dr Al Jassim said: "The title of the campaign was inspired by the UAE’s government strategy which included a number of themes that focus on the promotion of volunteer work and humanitarian efforts in society, and after a series of discussions, ZU student volunteers from Dubai campus and the campaign’s organizing committee.

He pointed out that Zayed University student volunteers and the community institutions participating will work on renovations of the school’s buildings in addition to the provision of several classroom requirements, library resources and a variety of equipment for the science laboratories and computers, and the cultivation of the school garden as well as organizing a number of workshops to benefit teachers school and students.

Dr. Al Jassim asserted that the importance of this humanitarian initiative embodies the culture of the giving society of the UAE, and exemplifies the noble values instilled in the UAE’s culture by it’s founder the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

He added: "As the leading educational institution in the country and the region, Zayed University has always considered community service, and volunteering for humanitarian and charitable causes a key element in building a student’s personality, and our students participation in this initiative is inspired by their belief in the importance of spreading awareness and providing assistance in rallying financial and moral support and mustering the community’s contribution to charitable initiatives through volunteer work".

Dr. Jassim also commended the role of the participating community institutions and their contributions to the campaign which helps in nurturing and promoting the culture of philanthropy and will encourage individuals and other institutions to adopt creative initiatives that promote the UAE’s efforts in the field volunteer work.

On her part, Safia Saeed Al Raqbani, Chief Development Officer, said: "The United in Responsibility campaign is a very unique initiative in the sense that the student volunteers have done studies which they used to build upon a detailed plan of assistance for the Al Halat Primary School in Fujairah which will be the starting point of this campaign.

Al Raqbani added: "Selecting the school itself came after an extensive study carried out by students to monitor the needs of the school in infrastructure and equipment for laboratories and other resources. These studies showed a great need in the school to for library books, reference books, stories, novels and encyclopedias, different classroom requirements of smart multimedia equipment, educational toys, computer software in addition to the needs of the science labs as well as the needs of the special education classes which computers, educational games and other equipment".
