Abu Dhabi to Exhibit in World’s Leading Industrial Trade Show

Hannover International Fair 2010

Abu Dhabi will be participating for the third consecutive year at the Hannover International Fair 2010 (Hannover Messe), to be held in the German city of Hannover from 19 – 23 April, promoting its transformation towards a diversified, knowledge based and sustainable economy.

The largest UAE emirate will participate at the world’s leading trade show for industrial technologies, materials and product ideas, with the aim of strengthening further the existing ties with leading edge German and European companies, and provide a valuable contribution to Abu Dhabi’s Economic Vision 2030.

Due to the success of Abu Dhabi’s previous involvement in Hanover Messe, the Government of Abu Dhabi, represented by the Department of Economic Development (DED), has brought together prominent Abu Dhabi institutions to showcase the emirate, and present the many opportunities offered by the current economic development. These include the Abu Dhabi Airport Company, Abu Dhabi Basic Industries Company, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Department of Economic Development, General Holding Corporation, MASDAR, Western Region Development Council and Zones Corp.

Abu Dhabi also extends their support to include the participation of four local industrial companies, Al Shoumoukh Industries, Emcan Electric Motors Manufacturing, Enviromena Power Systems and Emirates Precision Industries, to further strengthen the emirate’s presence in the global industrial and export sectors. These companies are participating to promote the development of non-oil exports and the emergence of the private sector as the main economic engine, two fundamental goals set by the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.

Heading the Abu Dhabi delegation, His Excellency Mohammed Omar Abdullah, DED Undersecretary, highlighted the importance of this year’s participation, “The UAE is Germany’s most important trading partner in the Arab world, and in the last four years alone German exports to the UAE have more than doubled. This rapid growth is testament to our ongoing relationship and continued participation at Hannover Messe, which is an unrivalled opportunity to enhance trade relationships with Germany and showcase our achievements to date.

“The event offers the ideal platform to work towards a greater global integration through increased international business partnerships, attract foreign investors and aim to bring the Economic Vision 2030 to fruition.”

To support this Vision, Abu Dhabi is making significant investments in infrastructure, including a major new port and industrial zone at Taweelah, the expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport, and the establishment of industrial cities and special economic zones to attract manufacturing operations.

In 2009, Abu Dhabi made significant investments in Germany including Daimler, Ferrostaal, Globalfoundries in Dresden, and the photovoltaic sector in Thuringia, in line with its economic diversification strategy. Today more than 900 German companies are currently investing and operating in the UAE, predominantly in petrochemicals, basic industries, renewable energy, engineering, service, pharmaceutical industries and health sectors.

This is a year for looking to the future, and Abu Dhabi sees Hannover Messe as an excellent opportunity to enhance trade relationships with Europe, in particular Germany, showcasing the achievements so far, and forging business partnerships that directly assist in the transformation of Abu Dhabi’s economy through exchange of capital, technology, expertise and technical knowledge.
