ALHOSN University Hosts Quality Assurance Workshop By University Of South Australia’s Professor Hilary Winchester

UAE Ministry of Higher Education’s Commission for Academic Accreditation invites key ALHOSN officials to join major Higher Education Institution (HEI) event

ALHOSN University, a leading Abu Dhabi-based university dedicated to high-quality, value-based education, is hosting a special workshop entitled “Internal Quality Assurance in HEIs” delivered by the renowned researcher, Professor Hilary Winchester, Pro Vice Chancellor for Strategy & Planning at the University of South Australia, today (Saturday, April 17, 2010) at the Men’s Campus of ALHOSN University, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The event is being organized by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Prof. Winchester oversaw similar workshops during the 10th Biennial Conference of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) held last year in Abu Dhabi. INQAAHE is a world-wide association of around 200 organizations dedicated to advancing quality assurance theory and practice in higher education. The CAA has invited Prof. Winchester to provide valuable insights on Quality Assurance to the country’s non-federal higher education institutions.

The Ministry of Higher Education has welcomed five ALHOSN representatives to join the exclusive session: Prof. Raymond Tennant, Professor of Mathematics and Head of the Effectiveness and Accreditation Center; Prof. Kamel Ghorab, Dean of Graduate Programs and Director of the Institutional Research Office; Prof. Ahmad Zohdi, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Assistant Provost for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Dr. Mustapha Tajdin, Acting Dean and Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Art and Social Sciences; and Dr. Noha Hassan, Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Head of the University General Requirement Unit (UGRU).

“We thank the UAE Ministry of Higher Education’s Commission for Academic Accreditation for choosing our campus as the venue for this important workshop and allowing our key officials to actively participate in this event. Quality is one of ALHOSN’s highest priorities and so we look forward to learning more about Quality Assurance from Prof. Winchester as well as strategies for applying it to our academic programs. We also pledge our full support for INQAAHE’s quality advocacy,” said Professor Abdul-Rahim Sabouni, Vice Chancellor and CEO, ALHOSN University.

Prof. Winchester’s visit is the latest in a series of major academic events hosted by ALHOSN University. Just recently it received two faculty members from the Kettering University in Flint, Michigan, USA who delivered a series of lectures on Mechanical Engineering and International Business Practices. The University was the venue for the regional ‘Foundations for the Future Forum’ for the architectural field last February 2010.

Founded in 2005, ALHOSN University’s goal is to provide students with ‘Global Knowledge with Local Vision.’ It offers 11 undergraduate and 7 graduate programs under the Faculties of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Business, and Arts and Social Sciences to students of all nationalities. All of ALHOSN’s academic programs are accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
