UAE To Participate In Obama’s Presidential Summit On Entrepreneurship In Washington

Nine individuals from the United Arab Emirates are among over 250 participants from over fifty countries, been invited to attend the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship to be hosted by U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C., on April 26 and 27.

Participants represent a broad and diverse spectrum of backgrounds, from social and economic entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the entrepreneurship ecosystem, to lenders and educators. This diversity will be a hallmark of this Presidential Summit.

U.S. Ambassador to the UAE Richard Olson welcomed the announcement of the Presidential Summit, saying, "This is one of many ways in which the United States is fulfilling President Obama’s call in Cairo to build strong partnerships based on mutual respect and mutual interests. I am particularly pleased to see a large delegation from the UAE, as I firmly believe that the UAE participants in this Presidential Summit will bring a unique perspective from one of the most entrepreneurial economies in the region." At his June 2009 speech in Cairo, President Obama announced that the U.S. Government would host a Summit on Entrepreneurship to identify how we can deepen ties between business leaders, foundations, and entrepreneurs in the United States and Muslim communities around the world. The Summit will highlight the role entrepreneurship can play in addressing common challenges while building partnerships that will lead to greater opportunity abroad and at home.

The Presidential Summit, jointly organized by the Department of State and the Department of Commerce, will include a series of moderated discussions on key issues and challenges for advancing entrepreneurship, including: technology and innovation; access to capital; youth entrepreneurship; mentoring and networking; fostering a culture of entrepreneurship; and other topics.

The Presidential Summit will highlight successful entrepreneurs; identify opportunities to build and strengthen the economic and social entrepreneurship ecosystems; identify how to expand the most successful entrepreneurship efforts and replicate successful approaches to key challenges; build networks among stakeholders in entrepreneurship; and provide an opportunity for partners to announce or highlight programs to help promote entrepreneurship in Africa; the Middle East; South, Central, and Southeast Asia; and in Muslim communities around the world.
