UAE’s First ECO-VILLA To Have Lowest Carbon Footprint

Marking the beginning of abnew era of Eco-building in the UAE, German Emarati Company BENA handed over on Wednesday night the key to the country’s 1st ECO-VILLA to Mr Saed Bin Houfan Al Mansouri, a 32 year old Abu Dhabi National, married and father of two who is also a new land owner.

Al Mansouri is the winner of a promotion run by BENA during CITYBUILD ABU DHABI 2010.

This promotion engaged land owners in a competition to win the first ever ECO-VILLA to be built in the UAE. This opportunity came after BENA, the leading manufacturer of Precast Aerated Concrete (PAC) announced last week it will be building ECO-VILLAS made out of this environmentally sustainable products that have 10 times the insulation of conventional concrete. Precast Aerated Concrete (PAC) is a fire, sound and earthquake proof construction material that makes villa interiors healthier to live in.

The prize giving ceremony gathered the most prominent UAE based developers, contractors, consultants and VIPs on board a yacht. Guests enjoyed a seminar by Middle East’s premier emissions reduction firm EcoVentures on a comparative research study between standard concrete and PAC on carbon emissions. Newly released data showed that BENA’s PAC contains the lowest levels of carbon footprints. Carbon Dioxide (CO2) has been shown to be the most significant of the man-made gases responsible for climate change. Measuring the amount of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere, or embodied within a product during the procurement of its raw materials, its manufacture and transportation is one of the most accurate ways of determining its impact on the environment. EcoVentures proved that BENA’s new Eco-PAC has a carbon footprint of only 138 kg CO2e/m3 compared with conventional concrete at 417.5 kg CO2e/m3, a 67% reduction.

Complying with the ABU DHABI 2030 URBAN STRUCTURE FRAMEWORK PLAN, BENA has already attracted interest from Abu Dhabi Government on this environmentally sustainable building system in a bid to minimize power supply in the emirate and its subsequent expenses.
