EAD Wins First Prize For Its Environmental Awareness Programmes |

The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) has once again received regional recognition for its innovative environmental awareness programmes. EAD was awarded the First Place award among 10 nominees in the Environment Awareness category at the 10th Arab Towns Organization (ATO) Award. Previous awards won by EAD include the International Globe Energy Award and the GCC Award for Environmental Education and Awareness. Fozeya Al Mahmoud, Manager of Environmental Education Department, EAD, received the award in a ceremony held in Doha, Qatar, in the presence of Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ibn Khalifa Ibn Abdul Aziz Al-Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture and Abdul Aziz Al-Adasani, Secretary General of ATO. The Agency ranked first among 10 nominees in the Environment Awareness category. This year, the competition included 115 nominations from organizations, universities, cities and religious institutions from all over the Middle East. Second place was bagged by Dammam, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Commenting on the award, H.E Majid Al Mansouri, EAD’s Secretary General, said; “Winning this award on the regional level is a reflection of the Agency’s efforts and commitment to promote environmental awareness. Abu Dhabi has a unique natural heritage that we should be proud of. By increasing our awareness of it we can help to ensure we are protecting our national treasures for future generations. ” Al Mansouri added that since 1996, EAD’s environmental awareness programmes have been adapting to the changes Abu Dhabi has been witnessing. They have focused on important issues such as biodiversity, water, waste, energy, and climate change. He noted that through partnerships with the private sector and non-governmental organisations, EAD has implemented tailor-made environmental education and awareness programmes that involve different sectors of the community. Al Mansouri said, “We would like to dedicate this award to H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), and thank him for the high level of confidence and trust placed in the Agency to carry out the task of building a society with increased environmental awareness.” The Arab Towns Organization, founded in 1967, is a non-governmental organization specialized in the affairs of municipalities and cities in the Arab world.
