ADMA - OPCO Holds Its 2nd Annual Geosciences 2010 Exhibition











ADMA-OPCO held its 2nd Annual Geosciences Exhibition on 11-13th May 2010 at the company headquarters, to showcase the Geosciences and their importance for the sustainability of the oil industry in the Emirates. The proceedings were opened by ADMA-OPCO General Manager , Mr. Ali Rashid Al Jarwan, who stressed the importance of the Geosciences for the future of the industry and the country. He was particularly gratified to see such interest from the students who attended the opening.

“The objective of the exhibition is to raise awareness inside the industry of the impact and importance of the Geosciences and by inviting students to participate in the event, we hope to stimulate more interest in the field and encourage students to consider careers in the Geosciences.” said Mr. Al Jarwan

The exhibition covered all aspects of Geosciences, in exploration, appraisal, development and in managing mature fields.

There was also a display from the Competence Assurance Management System which is a very successful initiative across the whole ADNOC group and designed to develop young nationals in professional fields. This display highlighted the opportunities and achievements for nationals in the Geosciences.

The displays in the different areas of the Geosciences included films, posters, fossil and rock samples and also incorporated the latest high tech equipment from key contractors. Contractors representatives and members of the ADMA-OPCO geosciences team were on hand to answer questions and explain complexities of the materials and equipment on display.

“We teach the students the theory of Geosciences and use textbooks to illustrate it, however this exhibition enables the students to see the actual equipment being used and real data from the field. Its an extremely rare and valuable experience, which we all appreciate” said Dr. Gawad UAE U Professor.

The exhibition was a accompanied by a number of presentations concerning the role of Geosciences in the future of the UAE. Dr Karl Bertussen of the Petroleum Institute spoke of the challenges of Geosciences for coming generations.

Khalfan Al Mansouri , a graduate of the Petroleum Institute, spoke about his reasons for being interested in the
Geosciences and his career to date with ADMA-OPCO. As well as many ADMA-OPCO employees, over 200 students attended the event and numerous professionals from sister companies in the Adnoc group took advantage of the rare opportunity to see the latest that technology has to offer in this field.
