EAD And Shell Abu Dhabi Team Up To Make A Difference In Environmental Awareness |

The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) and Shell Abu Dhabi have renewed their partnership by signing a new Sponsorship Agreement. Both organisations will continue to cooperate on promoting environmental literacy and public awareness in Abu Dhabi Emirate through EAD’s already existing awareness programmes. The Enviro-spellathon is a sustained educational activity for Primary and the Intermediate students and has been running in Abu Dhabi schools since 2001, in collaboration with Emirates Wildlife Society-World Wide Fund for Nature and the sponsorship of Shell Abu Dhabi. This activity targets student in all schools and it grows with the child. With each passing year the child learns relevant environmental information pertaining to the age group. EAD continued to implement the Enviro-spellathon programme this year successfully. The total number of students reached was 133,094 for the academic year 2009/2010.
The Annual Environment Competition was launched in 2001 and is also sponsored by Shell Abu Dhabi. It is organized in coordination with the educational zones of Abu Dhabi Emirate and the Abu Dhabi Education Council. The competition aims to raise environmental awareness with a participatory approach, raise motivational level amongst students and reach out to parents, and also the general public with a focus on issue and plausible solutions from the future generation. The competition began with 47 schools in its first year 2000-2001 and has grown to reach 858 students from 186 Private and Government schools in Abu Dhabi in 2009-2010. EAD also observes different local, regional and international environmental occasions, of which all aim at promoting environmental awareness regarding local and international issues for the general public, promote a sense of participation in Environment protection efforts and promote the concept ’’ Think Globally and Act Locally ’’ About Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) is a governmental agency that was established in 1996.
