ZonesCorp Conducts A Fire Drill At Emirates Pre-Insulated Pipes Industry In ICAD I

In cooperation with Abu Dhabi Civil Defence and Abu Dhabi Police, ZonesCorp’s fire drill aimed at strengthening industries’ response to emergency and hazardous accidents that might occur in the industrial zones

As the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) regulatory authority of all industrial activities in Abu Dhabi and in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, ZonesCorp conducted a fire drill at the Emirates Pre-insulated Pipes Industry (EPPI) in ICAD I in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Civil Defence and Abu Dhabi Police departments. The aim of the fire drill is to test and enhance emergency response of the industrial plants operating in the Corporation’s ICAD zones to serious mishaps.

Considering the standards of EHS among ICAD companies is one of the principal and strategic objectives of ZonesCorp that aim at strengthening awareness of the industrial businesses in Abu Dhabi and improving their response mechanism to sudden serious accidents that might happen in their plants during operations.

“Fire, among other hazardous accidents, represents a significant risk to industries as well as to the working staff in factories,” said HE Mohamed Hasan Al Qemzi, CEO, ZonesCorp. “Conducting fire drills periodically in our ICADs is an essential procedure that ZonesCopr is keen to apply to improve emergency response as a responsibility for ‘Duty of Care’ that goes in line with the Corporation’s proactive role being the sole EHS regulatory authority of Abu Dhabi industrial sector.”

Al Qemzi pointed out conducting fire drills help industries to measure their reaction towards real accidents, identify the areas of improvement and practice a systematic approach of response to a real situation which could be chaotic and causes panic.

“The fire drill is one of the activities and EHS awareness programs that ZonesCorp is conducting across the industrial sector in Abu Dhabi to highlight the necessity of industrial businesses to commit to Health, Safety and Environmental standards and improve their readiness to tackle such serious mishaps,” said Al Qemzi adding that EPPI fire drill is also meant to test the quick response of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence and the effectiveness of their fire-fighting equipment, in addition to measure the level of Abu Dhabi Police reaction to real accidents and the procedures they take to ensure safety and security of the people involved in such accidents.

Al Qemzi noted that the establishment of HSE & Security Department at ZonesCorp was essential and a very practical step towards enhancing the Corporation’s CSR standards believing that serious accidents are strictly connected to industrial activities. That is why ZonesCorp is always encouraging industries to maintain and improve their EHS management systems and to contribute to the protection of environment and minimize the amounts of negative impacts and losses they could cause, he added.

A total of 346 industrial enterprises have established operations in ZonesCorp by 2009. In the first quarter of 2010, ZonesCorp has recorded 574 permanent licenses across several industries with a total invested capital that stood at AED 27.2 billion.
