The program is in line with the integrated training and career development strategy adopted by the DoF. The aim of which is to stimulate students at both high school and university level to secure scientific and practical experience during their summer vacation from school. This will enhance the students’ awareness of the competitive labor market and in turn lead to more rounded young professionals with practical experience upon graduation.

“DoF is keen to play a vital role in developing and rehabilitating the future generations of young professionals; given that the next generation will continue the efforts implemented by the incumbent Abu Dhabi Government. Through learning from senior professionals, young students are able to acquire a knowledge that they cannot learn simply by studying textbooks. This internship program allows students to take the excellent knowledge they have learned in school and put it to practical use. Coupled with the wisdom of their supervisors during the internship, it’s a win-win formul for all involved. This will have a positive impact on enhancing economic growth not just for Abu Dhabi but for the UAE”, Issa Abdul Rahim Al Fahim, Director of Human Resources Management at DoF, said.

Al Fahim, continued, “This summer internship program gives students a valuable insight into the workings of the DoF and the daily business of government”.

A student who participated Hussein Bassem Al Nagas, remarked: “It was a unique experience, I learned to be more organized and now better understand how to manage my workload. As a direct result of this program, and having worked in the Human Resources department, I feel I am now better prepared to make a decision about the career I wish to pursue. I would like to express my gratitude to the DoF for the experience; it is one that I will dearly cherish”.

“Through this internship, I have learned to manage my time more effectively; furthermore I was able to apply actual knowledge from University to real-life settings. We were given actual responsibility and if the opportunity presented itself, I would very much like to return and participate next summer.’ student Nora Al Zaabi said.

Students were dispersed across varying departments, in different parts of the Emirate during the internship program. The students have also been trained in Public Accounts, budgeting, IT as well as in the financing department. Each student was placed according to their skill set.

The Career Development & Training Section is subdivided into three subsections: Career Development, Training and Scientific Support. The Career Development & Training Section recruits students graduating from universities and high schools during the summer. Students are given supervisors to monitor, and tutor the student interns.

The Career Development & Training Section have also started a Mentor Project, which is based on training of new
