ADEC Launches New GIS Smart Phone Application

Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has launched a new application based on using Smart phones for exchanging geographical information and data between ADEC’s Information Database Center and its managers, advisors and inspectors using Geographic Information System (GIS) launched by ADEC last year.

Dr. Rafic Makki, ADEC’s Executive Director of Strategic Planning Office, said that the new application will provide a platform for ADEC’s administrators and inspectors to instantly exchange reports, supported by data and photos, with the Information Database Center via Smart Phones from anywhere and at anytime to include school sites, educational zones etc. This will help accelerate the information analysis process in order to take the necessary decisions or actions without delay.

Users of the new application can obtain the required data, information and statistics through using various search options, Dr. Makki added.

"Some may say that this service can be, instead, delivered by using laptops or PCs available at schools and workplaces; however, we believe that Smart Phones are the best tools to use in field visits as the user may be located in classrooms or other school facilities or even on his/her way to the school. They are small, handy, an easy-to-use device that can be connected to the internet to directly communicate with ADEC’s Information Center," said Dr. Alaadin Ali, ADEC’s Data Center Manager.

The new application can be easily and instantly installed on any Smart Phone device to be ready for use. Such initiatives help improve the performance of educators so that they could respond to the needs of the education sector in due course, he added.
