UAE Creativity Takes Centre Stage On The UN Pavilion At Expo 2010 In Shanghai

Following the strong response to the major exhibition of UAE creativity staged in the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai by Dubai-based Tashkeel, the exhibition has now moved to the UN pavilion at the Expo.

"This is true recognition of the high quality of creativity in the UAE,” said Lateefa bint Maktoum, the founder of Tashkeel. “It is a real privilege to be invited to feature the work of UAE artists in the UN pavilion, particularly since it will be seen by so many visiting ambassadors, dignitaries, government officials and VIP’s, generating highly positive cross-cultural dialogue.”

Featured artists include Afra Bin Dhaher, Hind Mezaina, Hussain Al Numairy, Khalid Mezaina, Lateefa bint Maktoum, Maitha Demaithan, Maryam Al Qassimi, Mona Al Gurg, Reem Al Ghaith, Shaikha Bin Dhaher, Shamma Al Amri and Zainab Al Hashemi – several of whom have already gained international reputations.
Maitha Demaithan’s artwork is on display in the public area outside the entrance to the VIP section - protected by its own 24/7 personal guard - with up to 30,000 people passing by each day of the Expo.

Dr. Awni Behnam, Commissioner General of the UN Pavilion said that he was personally very happy to be hosting this innovative and inspiring collection, which will be visited by Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations during October.

Under the theme “Better City, Better Life”, Expo 2010 Shanghai expects to attract an overall total of more than 70 million visitors before it closes at the end of October. The unique exhibition that Tashkeel has developed reflects the specific focus of the UAE pavilion - The Power of Dreams - providing a thematic thread that links all of the events and activities on the pavilion throughout Expo 2010.

Tashkeel is an independent resource for artists and designers living and working in the United Arab Emirates, and is committed to inspiring art and design practice, cross-cultural dialogue and creative exchange.
