Talent Attraction Headlines At ADIPEC Tawteen Graduate Fair And SPE Education Week To Benefit Industry Development And Emiratisation

Talent attraction and Emiratisation will be under the spotlight as two hot topics being supported at ADIPEC (Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference).

ADIPEC will host a two-day Tawteen Graduate Fair taking place from 2-3 November. The Tawteen Graduate Fair will run concurrently with the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Education Week and also a series of ADIPEC field trips, designed to provide graduates with insight into the region’s oil and gas operation.

The SPE Education Week allows 70-80 top students studying engineering and geosciences or science degree programmes to gain knowledge about the exploration and production industry and learn from and network with professionals in the industry.

ADIPEC will see more than 1500 industry representatives from 89 countries converge for the four-day event and will allow students direct access to HR decision makers from leading national and international oil and gas companies.

ADIPEC event director Hifazat Ahmad said: “These initiatives provide two-way benefits for students in allowing them to gain first-hand information and make key connections with top-name companies whilst, inturn, allowing energy businesses to tap in to a key pool of youth talent. Whilst the ADIPEC Tawteen Graduate Fair will provide an excellent platform for the students to understand the industry and peruse suitable employment opportunities, it will also act as a prime opportunity for energy companies to source new local talent from the region’s educational institutes and play their part in the development of Emirati students.”

Details of each youth development initiative is as follows:

Graduate Fair

Held alongside ADIPEC, the Tawteen Graduate Fair is being developed in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council (ADTC) and is supported by lead players such as ADNOC, Exxon Mobil, BP, Dolphin Energy, Total and MEISCO. The fair is set to provide the energy sector’s rising stars with an unrivalled insight into the vast opportunities available to them in the Middle East today as increasing world attention turns to the region.

The Tawteen Graduate Fair, hosted at the ADNEC exhibition centre in the Capital Suites, will include a series of presentations from industry leaders highlight case studies and success stories, as well as discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing students within the energy sector. In addition, the focus will be to help students develop a better understanding of the challenges and rewards ahead of them and how they can overcome such challenges successfully.

Mr Ibrahim Ahmed Al Ansari, General Manager, Dolphin Energy, UAE which is sponsoring the ADIPEC Tawteen Graduate Fair commented: “It is of the upmost importance that we encourage and mentor local graduates and offer them the opportunities available within our sector.

“Dolphin Energy is firmly focused on securing, developing and retaining the brightest talent available and events like the Graduate Fair help to demonstrate to graduates and prospective employees the benefits of working in the oil and gas industry.”

Mr. Ali Rashid Al Kitbi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council said: “The ADIPEC Tawteen Graduate Fair will not only provide crucial insight on the Middle East energy sector for Emirati students and jobseekers hoping to join the industry, it will also provide an ideal platform to cast the light on the up-skilling and employment opportunities offered by the leading oil and gas companies which will enhance Emiratization and contribute on developing a knowledge based economy in Abu Dhabi.

A number of other student opportunities will be featured at this year’s ADIPEC including:

Education Week
As a part of Education Week and a special Education Day, selected students from qualified institutions across the region (Middle East, North Africa, India and Pakistan) will participate in field trips, team building activities, attend panel and technical sessions and finally work on a group project, together allowing them to benefit from the technology discussions taking place during the conference.

The programme set by the Education Week Committee includes various activities during the four-days of ADIPEC. Students will visit the Petroleum Institute and learn more about its facilities and services; they will get a chance afterwards to work on their projects in groups with the assistance of some young professionals where they will benefit and learn from them. They will then carry out some team building activities and also visit the ADIPEC Conference Sessions and Exhibition. Finally, the students will listen to industry senior management speeches.

The Education Week is sponsored by ADCO (Platinum), BP (Gold), OXY (Silver Sponsor), Total (Silver Sponsor), Schlumberger (Silver Sponsor), Shell (Silver Sponsor) and ExxonMobil (Speaker Gifts Sponsor).

Education Day
SPE Middle East North Africa and India is hosting a Regional Education Day program on the 2 November 2010 at the Petroleum Institute held in conjunction with the 2010 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC). Education Day is for local high school students, and it serves to introduce them to the discipline of petroleum engineering and the industry in general. This program caters to students in grades 10-12 from all international and local schools in Abu Dhabi. SPE will invite 50-100 high school students to attend Education Day, and industry professionals will share their experiences with the students and deliver talks on topics of general interest and relevance to the industry.

Field trips
ADIPEC will also host a series of field trips during its conference programme this year to provide direct knowledge to students hoping to join world-class oil and gas operations in the UAE. Selected students and conference delegates will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the most unique and interesting fields in the industry.

Organised in the conjunction with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the first field trip will take place on 31 October, and will take participants to Schlumberger’s Middle East & Asia Learning Centre, as well as a two-hour kayak trip to explore the Mangrove Lagoon of Abu Dhabi Island and its associated modern carbonate sediments. Another field trip courtesy of ADCO will be to a modern sabkha environment of Abu Dhabi, which is one of the few areas in the world where geoscientists can observe interplay between carbonate and evaporite sedimentation.
