ADTA ’Drivers’ Challenge’ Hands F1 Fans Ticket Fast-Lane

Mall Visitor Centres Let Everyone Join The Action

With tickets for the 2010 Formula 1 ™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix selling fast, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) is giving residents and visitors a one-off chance to win weekend passes to the UAE capital’s premier sporting event.

Running at specially-erected ADTA Visitor Information Centres in Al Wahda and Khalidiya Malls from 5-14th November, and Abu Dhabi Mall from 7-14th November, a ‘Drivers’ Challenge’ will give shoppers and visitors a ticket ‘fast-lane’ on full-scale, state-of-the-art F1™ driving simulators and games consoles.

With contestants battling one another in a week-long time trial competition, they can clock their best times and test their skills with the ultimate pit stop challenge. The two fastest racers from each mall will win Grand Prix tickets and a host of other motorsport-inspired prizes.

“Our objective through this community-centric initiative is to excite and motivate visitors, giving them the opportunity to be part of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix action,” said Noura Al Dhaheri, Acting Manager, Leisure Product Development, ADTA.

The mall Visitor Centres will be open from 4pm - 10pm on weekdays and 2pm - 11pm on weekends, with challengers allowed multiple attempts to record fastest lap times. A range of other attractions, including celebrity F1™ driver cut-outs for fun photography which can be super-imposed against stunning Abu Dhabi backdrops and a chance to ‘race’ their friends around the world’s top F1™ tracks will keep visitors entertained.

In addition to the promotional Grand Prix mall campaign, ADTA is positioning three temporary Visitor Centres around the Yas Marina Circuit, home of the F1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, to educate race fans on all the destination’s attractions.

The centres – one just outside the main grandstand, another in the centre and a third at the south entrance - will include an information reception area and feature a range of activities reflecting the emirate’s culture and sea-faring heritage. A section will also be devoted to forthcoming ADTA events, such as December’s Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge, January’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and February’s Gourmet Abu Dhabi.

“With so many visitors, be they local, regional or international, making the trip to Yas Island, the race weekend is the perfect environment to increase awareness of every aspect of Abu Dhabi’s multi-faceted tourism proposition,” added Mariam Al Dhaheri, ADTA’s Visitor Information Services Representative.

A fourth, permanent Visitor Centre is to open in Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the world’s largest indoor theme-park and home to Formula Rossa – the world’s fastest rollercoaster – which will officially open on October 27th.
