Top Executive From The Global Technology Industry

To Gather in Abu Dhabi For Atic Vision Summit, Nov 12-14. Twitter Co-Founder Biz Stone, H.E. Sheikha Lubna al Quasimi to Address Attendees

Over 250 top technology executives are coming to Abu Dhabi Nov 12-14, 2010, to discuss the future of the global semiconductor industry at the first-ever “Semiconductor Vision Summit” hosted by the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC).

The summit, bringing together many of the world’s leading innovators in advanced technology, aims to create a dialogue about the industry’s challenges as well as showcase the vision of Abu Dhabi as a developing global hub for semiconductors. The Summit will also assess the important contributions of the next generation of Emiratis in the development of Abu Dhabi’s 2030 economic vision.

Biz Stone—artist, technologist, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Twitter, one of the world’s fastest- growing social networking and micro-blogging services - will present the keynote speech on November 14th on the topic of innovation, experimentation, and entrepreneurship. For more than a decade, Stone has been developing large scale systems that foster the open exchange of information at a global level. In less than three years, Twitter has become one of the most important services of its kind.

"Innovation and technology are powerful tools for moving humanity forward," said Stone. "Together with other attendees of the summit, I look forward to discussing a greater focus on how knowledge and compassion will play an important role in driving the future of industry around the world."

Also on November 14th, H.E. Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, the UAE’s Minister of Foreign Trade who was recently declared by Forbes Magazine as ‘the Arab World’s most influential woman,’ will offer a keynote on the topic of “The Next Generation of Emiratis.”

“We are thrilled that Biz Stone and H.E. Sheikha Lubna will be with us in Abu Dhabi at the first ATIC Semiconductor Vision Summit,” said Ibrahim Ajami, ATIC CEO. “Both of them are pioneers with vision. Biz is part of an important generation of technology innovators which has changed the way in which people interact. His innovations underline the growing importance of technology and global collaboration. Meanwhile, H.E. Sheikha Lubna, a technology entrepreneur herself, will provide a perspective on the role of future generations of Emiratis in enabling the country to fulfill its potential.”

ATIC’s Chairman, Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, will be the lunch keynote speaker to the delegates Nov. 14 about the Abu Dhabi 2030 Economic Vision and how a vibrant semiconductor cluster fits into that vision. As Chief Operating Officer of Mubadala, Al Muhairi was also one of the principal architects behind the creation of the vision.

The Summit’s delegates will engage in panels featuring significant challenges facing the industry, including the limits of technology and fast-changing consumer trends. Some of the technology’s most respected company names will be represented, including HP, AMD, Intel, IBM, Qualcomm, Broadcom, and GLOBALFOUNDRIES.

“It is fitting the Vision Summit coincides with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix,” said Ajami. “Speed, precision and performance are characteristics synonymous with racing and technology. This weekend will show both industries at their best.”

The ATIC Vision Summit will span three days of events from 12 to 14 November 2010 at locations across Abu Dhabi. Friday will celebrate the achievements of the students who have participated in the Al Nokhba education program, while Saturday and Sunday will focus on leadership and innovation in the semiconductor industry. The Summit will operate under Chatham House rules.
