WRO 2011 Flag Is Handed Over To ADEC Delegation











A school team representing UAE won the Most Creative Robot Design Award in the intermediate level of high school competition in the World Robot Olympiad International Finals 2010 that concluded yesterday in Manila, Philippines. The team of Our Own High School-Dubai won the award after competing with contestants from 22 countries around the world. During the closing ceremony, the winning UAE team was honored by Mr. Jejomar Binay, Vice President of the Philippines, in the presence of senior officials and dignitaries.

During the ceremony, the flag of the World Robot Olympiad International Finals 2011 was handed over to the delegation of Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) which will host the event in Abu Dhabi in November 2011. UAE is the first Arab country to host WRO which will be organized outside Southeast Asia for the first time ever. Up to 40 countries from all over the world are expected to participate in this prominent technological event. ADEC delegation has also answered the questions posed by international media on the preparations for hosting the next competitions in Abu Dhabi next year.

H.E. Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Director General of ADEC congratulated the winning team and said: “ADEC has embraced robotics as a fun way to interest students in the fields that are vital to the future of Abu Dhabi. It will help develop the skills of our future engineers, mathematicians, scientists, technologists and technicians who will lead innovation in these fields in the future.”

ADEC lead a 12-UAE school team delegation to compete in the World Robot Olympiad International Finals 2010 in Manila, Philippines during the period November 5-6, 2010. The selected teams were finalists in the UAE Robot Olympics held in 29 September 2010 at ADNEC. The participating teams were sponsored by ADEC and GEMS Education.
