TDIC To Deliver Over 1,800 Rooms And More Than 1,700 Residential Units By 2012

Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), the master developer of cultural, residential, and tourism destinations in Abu Dhabi, today announced that it’s set to deliver over 1,800 hotel rooms by 2012 along with its joint venture partners, as well as over 1,700 residential units. The announcement coincides with the launch of a comprehensive update on TDIC’s portfolio of announced developments, including Saadiyat Island and Desert Islands - all reflecting strategic importance to the 2030 Economic Vision. TDIC currently has over 55 projects, worth over AED120 billion, planned for completion by 2020 across the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

“Through a strong commitment to delivering all its announced projects on schedule, TDIC plays a significant role in the development of Abu Dhabi as an international tourism and business destination of choice,” said His Excellency Mubarak Al Muhairi, Managing Director of TDIC. “The past two years have seen the successful launch of many of our projects and we look forward to announcing the opening of many more of our developments this year, as well as unveiling brand new projects. We also continue to receive wide support from our partners and investors in the private sector through newly created joint venture partnerships, which will help us make significant advances across all our portfolios.”

The range of TDIC’s project portfolio spans redevelopment of urban landmark districts, new-build mixed-use complexes, downtown business and leisure resorts, and luxurious desert resorts. Every TDIC project reflects the company’s core values of cultural and environmental preservation as well as socio-economic promotion.

Lee Tabler, Chief Executive Officer of TDIC, said: “Four years since our inception and TDIC has realised many milestones. Over the past year, we have witnessed the completion of many landmarks on our flagship development, Saadiyat Island, which saw Saadiyat Beach Golf Club welcoming its first visitors in January 2010, and Manarat Al Saadiyat, the island’s specially developed exhibition space, opening with its inaugural exhibition in November 2009. In the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, Sir Bani Yas Island continues to flourish with the announcement of new lodges, and we also celebrated the opening of our landmark Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara.”

“Along with our joint venture partners, TDIC successfully delivered over 1,200 new hotel rooms to Abu Dhabi in 2009. These developments support Abu Dhabi’s ambition to become a distinctive destination for international tourists, and provide much needed quantity and variety of accommodation in the capital. There is no doubt that 2010 and 2011 will prove to be just as exciting as we continue to be one of the leaders in shaping Abu Dhabi’s tourism offering,” said Tabler.

By 2012, TDIC will have delivered over 3000 hotels rooms hence supporting Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority’s (ADTA) aim to attract 2.3 million guests to Abu Dhabi by the same date. This includes the 1200 delivered in 2009 and the 1800 to be delivered in 2010 and 2011.
