Hospitality’s Next Generation Of Sustainable Solutions Unveiled In UAE Capital

World’s ’Green Tourism’ Champions Gather For Ground-Breaking Event

Pioneering sustainable solutions for the global hospitality industry are being unveiled in the UAE capital this week, as the world’s ‘future tourism’ champions gather for the ground-breaking World Green Tourism Abu Dhabi conference and exhibition.

Environmentally-friendly taxis and revolutionary solar-powered boats are among the highlights of the exhibition which hosts national arenas from Japan, Thailand and the United Kingdom alongside private participants from the UAE, Qatar, France, Germany, and Malaysia.

“This is the future on show” said Rick Theobald, Event Director, Streamline Marketing Group (SMG), which is organising the event. “It is an essential forum for hospitality industry players as the sector moves to a fresh era being driven by an increasingly discerning international guest base which is demanding evidence of sustainable responsibility from its preferred hosts.

“There’s massive potential for destinations and operators to reduce carbon footprints, increase bottom lines and open up to a growing market segment of eco-conscience travellers. This is the industry’s chance to get in on the ground floor of a movement which is defining its future.”

The exhibitor profile boasts some of the world’s most powerful ‘green’ leaders including Philips, the global technology and design company which will demonstrate its LED technology and which is ensuring World Green Tourism Abu Dhabi is a fully carbon neutral event, via an offset programme; Zeoplant, which delivers a water retaining soil amendment to reduce irrigation water requirements and Oxel, providing technology for remote reading and analysis of electricity and water consumption.

Special showcases by Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Platinum Sponsor Abu Dhabi National Hotels and Gold Sponsor Al Ain Wildlife Park and Resort, will also demonstrate the UAE capital’s mounting ‘green tourism’ credentials.

Gathering at Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (ADNEC) for the event, which runs November 22-24, are the forerunners of the ‘green tourism’ movement including, Hon. Suraphon Svetasreni, Governor, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Hisham Zaazou, Asst. Minister, Ministry of Tourism, Egypt, Isabel Hill, Director, Office of Travel and Tourism Industries, Department of Commerce, USA, and Luigi Cabrini, Director (Sustainable Development), UNWTO.

The event’s will patron HH Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), will deliver the welcome address while Richard Quest, CNN’s renowned anchor and business travel specialist, will also lead the opening keynote session ‘Significance of Green Tourism’ and moderate ‘Formulating a National Green Tourism Strategy’ session.

World Green Tourism Abu Dhabi, a first-of-its-kind event for the Arabian Gulf, is the debut meetings industry initiative to emerge from Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority’s (ADTA) Advantage Abu Dhabi incentive programme which catalyses and seeds new business tourism and meetings concepts. The event reflects the core values of the Abu Dhabi Government’s 2030 plan which clearly identifies tourism as a key economic diversification driver and environmental sustainability as an underlying fundamental of the emirate.

The event is co-hosted by the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi. It boasts over 50 speakers including international sustainability pioneers, tourism ministers and heads of tourism bodies and UN representatives.
