The fourth annual diabetes walkathon has received the support of His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Saeed bin Saif Al Nahyan as the walkathon’s Youth and Community Ambassador.

Walk UAE is part of ‘Diabetes. Knowledge. Action’, the award-winning public health awareness campaign under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, from Abu Dhabi’s Imperial College London Diabetes Centre.

Speaking at a media briefing, Sheikh Tahnoon urged the UAE community, especially the youth and children to take charge of their lifestyle and stand together against diabetes.

According to the ICLDC’s Medical & Research Director and Consultant Endocrinologist, Dr Maha Taysir Barakat, this year’s event will be held at the capital’s Yas Marina Circuit (on Friday November 26 2010).

The National Health Insurance Company – Daman is onboard for the fourth year to support the annual diabetes walkathon.

Dr Maha confirmed that recent figures peg the diabetes prevalence in the UAE at 18.7 per cent of the adult population, the second highest worldwide.
