UAE Golfing Stars Of Tomorrow Attend Exclusive Clinic

Florentyna Parker, a rising star of the Ladies professional golfing circuit, took time out of her hectic schedule to host a special junior clinic for budding local golfers in support of the 2010 Abu Dhabi Junior Golf Championship, in association with The Daily Telegraph, which tees off today (Sunday).

The 21-year old from the UK, who has already tasted success on the Ladies European Tour with a victory in the 2010 ABN Amro Ladies Open Champion, introduced local children from around the capital, aged as young as five, to the basics of golf, including driving, chipping and putting.

Speaking after the clinic at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, which hosts the Junior Championship, Parker said: “It was a delight to work with youngsters who showed such enthusiasm for the game. Some of them certainly had the skills to indicate they could be future stars, and that is the great thing about being here for the Abu Dhabi Junior Golf Championship – being able to contribute to the development of golf in the UAE.”

For the 2010 championship, 11 boys and nine girls from the UK and Ireland will be joined by 16-year-old UAE resident, Daniel Hendry, in the battle for the Abu Dhabi Junior Golf Championship title.

Hendry will become only the second Middle East-based golfer to compete in the championship, which counts the likes of Justin Rose, the four-time European Tour winner, and Ryder Cup star Andrew Coltart among its past winners. Hendry qualified for the finals by winning October’s Kentz Junior Open at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

This prestigious tournament will see the future stars, selected from an opening field of over 40,000, battle it out at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club from November 28 to 30.
