ADEC And ATIC Organize Orientation Sessions On Al Nokhba Programs

Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) organized separate orientation sessions last week on the two Al Nokhba programs offered by ADEC in collaboration with the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC). Orientation sessions on Al Nokhba Scholarship Program targeted UAE high school students to help them continue their higher education and study engineering technology disciplines in well-known universities. Engineering students attended sessions on Al Nokhba Summer Internship Program that provides first-hand training opportunities to UAE undergraduates studying at high diploma or bachelor degrees in universities in UAE or abroad.

Ms. Mona Majed Al Mansoori, ADEC’s Division Manager of Guidance and Scholarships, said that Al Nokhba program aims to inform high school students about Al Nokhba Scholarship Program and raise their awareness on the importance of expansion plans in advanced technology projects. During these sessions, students were provided with detailed information about the scholarship program’s goals, scheme, accommodation, and employment after graduation, Al Mansoori added.

“The orientation sessions on Al Nokhba Summer Internship Program provided engineering students with information about the unique opportunity to receive hands-on summer training programs in one of the Global Foundries facilities, a world’s leading semi-conductors manufacturers. As part of this year’s program, internship is provided for the third time in Dresden, Germany, and for the first time in Singapore,” Al Mansoori added.

“The internship program aims to improve the practical skills of engineering students in multiple areas of technology in order to enable them to meet the global labor market requirements. Students will receive an extensive theoretical and hands-on training needed for developing their skills in order to master the semi-conductors manufacturing technology and processes,” she added.

The program is dedicated to engineering students expected to graduate during the upcoming three years (2011, 2012 and 2013) to include students studying Chemical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mecha Electronics, Nano Electronics, Microelectronics, Geometrics, Industrial Engineering as well as other related disciplines such as Physics and Chemistry. To be eligible, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.00 and distinguished academic abilities based on the assessment results of student activities, interviews and tests.

Some students who have participated in the internship program during the last years participated in the induction activities to discuss what they had learnt from their internship experience at Global Foundries and brief new students on the program’s objectives.

Al Nokhba Scholarship Program aims to improve student skills and meet the needs of a global labor market. Outstanding high school students, who score 85% or more, will have the chance to study engineering disciplines such as Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering, as well as other important disciplines such as Physics and Material Sciences. Upon successful completion of their studies, Al Nokhba Scholars will have the opportunity to work at one of ATIC’s facilities.
