Khaled Al Qubaisi To Seek To Set New World Indoor Speed Record At ADIMS 2010











With less than two weeks to go, the Abu Dhabi International Motor Show (ADIMS) 2010 has now confirmed that celebrated UAE driver Khaled Al Qubaisi will be conducting the world indoor speed record attempts.

On Thursday and Friday, December 9 and 10, ADIMS 2010 will witness a number of attempts to break the world land indoor speed record, which currently stands at just over 132 km/h. Al Qubaisi will race along a specially built, 340-meter long indoor track at ADNEC.

“The world indoor speed record attempt represents an exciting challenge for me,” said Al Qubaisi. “I am honoured to have been chosen for this mission. I see it as an opportunity to raise the UAE flag high, making it yet more prominent amongst the international community.”

The track, which will stretch the length of seven of ADNEC’s exhibition halls, will have a special spectator area to allow visitors to be part of this unique experience. Al Qubaisi urged ADIMS 2010 visitors to be there to support him throughout the attempts. “I invite the residents of Abu Dhabi and all show visitors to come down to the show to support me for this test, as they have so graciously done over the course of my racing career.” He said.

Peter McConnell, the ADIMS 2010 Exhibition Director believes that the indoor speed record attempts will undoubtedly generate a new level of excitement fit to match the thrills promised for the ADIMS 2010, he said: “With a raft of onsite activities, topped by the indoor world speed record attempts, the ADIMS 2010 will live up to its slogan for this year, Ready for the Thrill…!”

Taking place from December 7-11 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, ADIMS 2010 the show will be held under the patronage of His Highness Lt. Gen. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Interior UAE, the show will also be a platform from which ADIMS 2010 and the IATC join forces to promote safe driving around the UAE.

Reinforcing a strong safety message that will run throughout the show, the International Automobile and Touring Club (IATC) will have an onsite activity, at the ADIMS 2010 to educate children on the importance of complying with road and traffic regulations. The objective of the campaign is to enforce safe driving, urge drivers to obey prescribed speed limits, respect traffic lights and pedestrian crossings and much more.

About the IATC participation, Mr. Hamad Al Mazroui IATC’s managing director said: "Focusing on the dangers on reckless driving, speed limits and respecting road rules and regulations, the aim of our onsite activity is teaching children to respect traffic rules, as well as educating them on the importance using seatbelts. We also anticipate to raises their awareness on dangerous shoulder overtaking, and excessive speed on the roads.”
