Abu Dhabi University Hosts A Series Of Cultural Activities To Foster Patriotism And Boost The Cultural Awareness Of Young Emiratis

University’s National Day celebrations focus on "Effective Citizenship for a Sustainable Future"

Abu Dhabi University has organised a series of cultural and heritage activities to commemorate the 39th National Day of the UAE. The activities were aimed at bolstering the patriotism of young Emirati student graduates, while encouraging these students to take on important roles in the future development of the country.

Under the slogan “Effective Citizenship for a Sustainable Future”, the series of activities was held on 30th November, at ADU’s Khalifa City B Campus. These activities, targeting students from grades 11 and 12, for the first time, were designed to shed light on the true values of national affiliation while developing a spirit of union and a sense of national responsibility within this group of young people.

The university showcased a number of successful young men and women from the public and private sectors. These young people shared their personal achievements and their efforts to help make the UAE one of the more advanced countries in the world.

During the official launch of celebrations, a number of government institutions and non-governmental organisations (NGO) also demonstrated their efforts to support and promote active citizenship in the UAE. In addition, secondary schools in Abu Dhabi, including ADU students and graduates, participated in the programme.

One of the main activities during the first day of celebrations was a lecture entitled “How to be an Active Citizen in Your Community”, which included discussion of the concept of Active Citizenship and the role of Emiratis in contributing to the achievement of the goals in the UAE’s strategic plan. Other activities included several music and drama sketches performed by the ADU Drama Club, as well as Poetry Nights.

“National Day is an important opportunity to contemplate the milestones and significant strides undertaken by our forefathers who united the UAE. This day should be a call for unified contributions to the continuing growth and development of the country,” said Dr Nabil Ibrahim, the Chancellor of ADU.

Dr. Ibrahim added that the university is broadly investing in its undergraduate and pre-university students because these young people will carry the banner of the UAE in the coming decades.

National Day celebrations will continue at the University over the course of the entire week. A heritage village built on the campus premises will feature activities and traditional games in addition to a number of events and competitions.
