ALHOSN University Marks 39th UAE National Day With Exhibits By UAE Women’s Union

Day-long celebrations include history contest & heritage events

ALHOSN University, a leading Abu Dhabi-based university dedicated to high-quality, value-based education, recently celebrated the UAE’s 39th National Day on December 2, 2010 with a series of cultural events at its Male and Female Campuses. Among the celebratory highlights were an exhibition of Emirati cuisine and national products by the UAE Women’s Union.

The special day comprised henna tattooing sessions, local dances, poetry and serving coffee and snacks in a traditional Emirati tent which were decorated with national handicrafts. A group of students also organized a special contest on UAE history as well as the achievements of the former President and Founding Father of the UAE, H.H. the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

“Over the past four decades the UAE has successfully balanced rapid development with cultural identity. Our National Day celebrations are meant to honor the visions of H.H. the late Sheikh Zayed and the country’s other founding rulers and pass them on to today’s youths. We appreciate the participation of the UAE Women’s Union this year and their help in encouraging our female students to reach their full potential and enlightening our students on the UAE’s rich heritage,” said Mrs. Ghada Qabha, Director of Students Affairs, ALHOSN University.

“As the UAE celebrates its 39th National Day I am proud to be part of the festivities for a great nation at ALHOSN University. The UAE has achieved so much in such a short period of time and ALHOSN University is privileged to be part of its educational growth and development under the enlightening leadership of H.H. the late Sheikh Zayed, and H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed,” said Noha Ibrahim, a student at ALHOSN University.

The establishment of the UAE Women’s Union was inspired by the formation of the Abu Dhabi Women’s Association, the first women’s association in the country founded by First Lady H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak. The Union brought together all the women’s associations in the seven emirates in 1975. The organization deals with a variety of issues including religious affairs, mother and child care, social affairs, cultural affairs, and arts and sports.

Since its inception in 2005 ALHOSN University has been educating students of all nationalities under the slogan ‘Global knowledge with local vision.’ The University’s City Campus includes Men’s and Women’s Campuses, a Library, an Engineering Building and a Studio Building. ALHOSN offers 11 undergraduate and 7 graduate programs under the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the Faculty of Business, and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
