SEHA Marks UAE’s 39th National Day With Special Celebrations


Hospitals wear flag colors and play host to diverse festive activities










In celebration of the 39th UAE National Day, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA) and its subsidiary hospitals are marking the occasion with a diverse series of events and activities across the emirate of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region (Al Gharbiah). The events program at SEHA hospitals comprises health, entertainment, cultural, and artistic activities that shed light on the considerable achievements of the UAE’s health sector since the birthof the federation.

Celebrations kicked off on November 25th across SEHA hospitals with a variety of activities that included live artistic shows, traditional songs, Emirati folk dances, traditional dishes, and henna art, bringing a smile to patients and visiting family members alike. The course of activities is scheduled for conclusion on December 2nd: UAE’s 39th National Day.

The establishment of SEHA is part of the Government of Abu Dhabi’s healthcare sector reform initiatives and represents another step in the realization of H.H. Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s vision to provide the people of the UAE with the best healthcare facilities in the world, locally. “It is a remarkable achievement that SEHA has become a source of pride for the people of the UAE with its state-of-the-art health facilities and services,” he concluded.

The Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) hosted the inaugural celebrations by hospital staff followed by special visits to patients in different sections, where National Day themed gifts were distributed to lift spirits and spark smiles and fun.

In the city of Al Ain, Tawam Hospital organized an open day for its staff following official working hours that included special visits to patients, a gift giveaway, contests for ‘Best Emirati Costume’ and ‘Best Traditional Dish’ in addition to heritage competitions and ‘Best Ward Display Award’ among different activities.

Al Ain Hospital dedicated a pavilion to handicrafts and traditional dishes. The program included an authentic Emirati wedding demonstration with traditional folk songs and dances in addition to a special photo gallery that shed light on the heritage of Al Nahyan family.

Corniche Hospital organized a special tent to mark the Nation’s 39th Birthday. The tent, held in the parking lot of the hospital, welcomed many visitors who enjoyed an array of entertaining activities such as camel rides, henna drawing, falcons’ show, a ten-minute movie prepared by the patient affairs staff and many others. A key activity during the day was organizing Mr. and Mrs. UAE contest which saw a wide participation from expats dressed up in Emirati traditional costume. The event took place from 1pm-9 pm and all the participants got their special gifts from Corniche Hospital as a thank you for their participation.

Al Rahba Hospital was decorated with huge UAE flags, underlining the role of the federation in catalyzing a revolution in health care across the country. The staff distributed gifts to patients and their visiting family members to mark a ‘Memorable Day’ in the history of the UAE.

Emirati folklore took center stage at Al Mafraq Hospital where a special tent was set up in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Police to host a series of traditional folklore dances and contests. Doctors, medical staff, and general public enjoyed a gala of musical shows and entertainment numbers.

Al Gharbia Hospitals participated in celebrating the UAE’s 39th National Day by organizing a number of student marches and coloring the streets with Union flags. The hospitals’ administration also paid special visits to patients and distributed gifts on the occasion.

SEHA owns and operates eight healthcare facility systems that include 12 hospitals, 2,472 beds and more than 55 ambulatory care units. Since its inception, the company has adhered to a clear strategic vision of accomplishing excellence in the healthcare sector by providing best-in-class services and facilities. It has also become a preferred employer for regional and international healthcare professionals, which has sparked local investment opportunities and partnerships with prominent international institutions in the sector. SEHA is currently focusing on developing top-notch healthcare infrastructure, rolling out initiatives, and ensuring career openings for Emiratis.

Earlier this year, SEHA announced a number of huge healthcare projects that are poised to enhance sector services in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, and compete with international healthcare destinations. The company intends to replace both Al Mafraq Hospital and Al Ain Hospital with modern facilities in line with Abu Dhabi’s goal to become one of the best five governments in the world. The Western Region (Al Gharbiah) will house two new facilities,while construction works on Al Sila Hospital and Ghayathi Hospital are already underway.

A new center for autistic children is expected to be delivered by early 2011.In addition; nine new healthcare centers will be set up in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and the city of Al Ain. The Executive Committee of the Executive Council approved SEHA’s plans to renovate and construct healthcare facilities in Mohamed bin Zayed City, Shahama, Al Falah, Al Shamkha, Al Hili, Oud Toba, Al Hayer, Al Yahar, and Sweihan. Additionally, SEHA has received the go-ahead for setting up Al Mafraq Dialysis Center; the first independent center that boasts 68 dialysis units.
