Al Rahba Hospital Organizes National Women’s Health Conference

More than 700 participants from medical community and regulatory authorities to attend

Al Rahba Hospital will host a National Women’s Health Conference on December 10th and December 11th, 2010. The two-day event will be held at the Al Raha Beach Hotel in Abu Dhabi. The conference will bring together more than 700 health care professionals and members of the regulatory community to discuss important issues in the area of women’s health, including coaching on how to approach different matters related to women’s health.

The event is being led by Nellie Boma, M.D., M.P.H and Chief Medical Officer of Al Rahba Hospital. More than twenty female doctors from Al Rahba hospital, other SEHA Health System health care facilities and experts from around the region will be presenting on a variety of topics that range from disease prevention to rehabilitation.

“We are proud to be hosting A National Women’s Conference in the UAE. This event will bring together female doctors from around the world and will provide an open forum to discuss women’s health issues,” says Dr. Nellie Boma, Chief Medical Officer of Al Rahba Hospital. “We hope that this conference will help to educate our health care providers on the most pertinent issues in women’s health and encourage them to share their findings with other experts. They will also have an opportunity to learn about the latest techniques and innovative approaches to treating and preventing some of the most prevalent diseases that affect women today.”

Al Rahba Hospital’s Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) Program was first established in January 2009 with the objective of identifying the number of female cases of breast cancer, cervical cancer and osteoporosis within the UAE through early detection. A robust approach to disease prevention through patient screening, beginning pre-natal care in the 1st trimester of pregnancy, lactation programs and public outreach programs are among the tools WHI uses to encourage healthy lifestyle management.

The hospital recently hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, during which visitors and patients were able to take home information kits after speaking directly with physicians. Recently launched at Al Rahba Hospital, the new Digital Mammography Unit features the latest digital imaging technology with all necessary mechanical and software features available on site. It permits fast image acquisition and archiving, secondary post-processing, and advanced computer analysis detection (CAD).

“Breast cancer is one of the women’s most prevalent diseases in the UAE, and its effects on those afflicted, affects everyone around that person. Through the Woman’s Health Initiative, we hope to create awareness about the disease and empower women with information on avoiding it. That means promoting early detection and encouraging women to make healthy lifestyle choices that will decrease their risk of developing the disease,” concluded Dr. Boma.

Al Rahba Hospital is managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International and is part of the SEHA http://www.zawya.com/cm/profile.cfm/cid1003074 Health System. Al Rahba is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
