HH Sheikh Omar Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Inaugurates Abu Dhabi International Motor Show 2010

Show features latest models and interactive activities for all the family

Abu Dhabi International Motor Show (ADIMS) 2010, held under the patronage of His Highness Lt Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, was officially inaugurated yesterday (December 8) afternoon by His Highness Sheikh Omar bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation.

During his tour of the show, His Highness visited a number of stands to view some of the models being launched at ADIMS 2010, such as the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, the Hyundai i-Mode and Toyota FT-86G concept cars and many others. He also visited the Ministry of Interior stand to view the fleet of new models on display.

The show, which will run until December 11 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), features over 60 exhibitors, showcases more than 200 vehicles and includes some 20 regional and UAE launches. This year it also offers a range of exciting activities designed to appeal to all the family, helping position ADIMS as the largest and most comprehensive motor show in the Middle East this year.

Among the wide range of new cars on display at ADIMS 2010, a number of models are making their Middle East debuts. The new 5-door compact luxury car, the Range Rover Evoque, is making its regional premier, as are two eye-catching concept cars, the Toyota FT-86G and Mazda’s KAZAMAI.

The Kia stand boasts the next-generation Sportage and all-new Optima models, Toyota’s Zelas is making its UAE debut, Ford is showing off the 2011 Mustang, while the 2011 Camaro Convertible and XTS Platinum Concept are highlights on the Chevrolet and Cadillac stands respectively. Ferrari, GMC, Hyundai, Jaguar, Lexus, Lincoln, Maserati, Mitsubishi, Peugeot and Subaru are also present.

Helping it to stand out from other shows in the region, ADIMS 2010 offers numerous activities for all the family to enjoy. An outdoor karting track, designed by experts from the Al Ain Raceway, features 160cc and 270cc karts racing each other along a 350-metre track. Next door, visitors can experience the incredible offroad ability of Toyota’s 4x4 SUV range on on a custom-built course.

Inside the halls, visitors can try their hand at changing tyres Formula 1-style with the Red Bull pit stop game, or enjoy one of a number of exciting hi-tech simulators available on site – the Ford stand features a hi-resolution rally driving simulator, the Toyota stand gives an early opportunity to play the new Gran Turismo Playstation 3 game, while there are a number of F1 simulators on the Yas Marina Circuit stand.

Caltex are offering free massages, a range of prizes are up for grabs to the highest scoring participants in ENOC’s X-Treme Dare basketball challenge, and there is the opportunity to view live demonstrations of Abu Dhabi based tinting company Lamassat’s new bulletproof “glass guard film.”

And for fans of more unusual vehicles, the Ministry of Interior stand has a fascinating display of some of its more unique vehicles, including a liveried Nissan GT-R and Chevrolet Camaro, while elsewhere displays range from motorbikes to buses, and classic cars to race cars.

“This year, in addition to displaying the latest models on the market, the focus is very much on providing a range of fun, interactive activities for all the family. You don’t just have to be a car expert to enjoy the show,” said Peter McConnell, the ADIMS 2010 Exhibition Director.

The exhibition will open its doors from 4-10pm from December 8-10 and from 12-10pm on Saturday December 11. Tickets are priced at AED20 each, and further information on the show is available at www.admotorshow.com.
