Abu Dhabi Teachers Get Crash Course On Lego Education Mindstorms |

The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) hosted a series of workshops with principals and teachers from private and government schools training them to use Lego Education Mindstorms products. These robotics products provide a fun, hands-on way for students to learn about science, technology, engineering and math, while developing important problem-solving and creative thinking skills. Teachers were nominated from each 3rd-12th grade school to participate in the workshops. Once successfully completed the two-day program, teachers were given the title of Mindstorms Lead Teachers. These teachers will be able to use, promote, and teach other staff members how to use the Lego Education Mindstorms products. H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of ADEC, said this product is a valuable educational tool for every school to have. “Technology is a necessity in our daily lives and it’s wonderful to see our children actively engaging with these new technologies,” he added. Lego Education Mindstorms served as an integral part in developing robots for the World Robot Olympiad, hosted by ADEC in September. A total number of 390 students from the various school cycles competed to win awards in robotics designing and programming competitions. “With the World Robot Olympiad 2011 scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi, it is important to prepare our educators and students for successful participation in the event. I urge all schools to have teachers with skills in robotics design and programming to share with their students and peers to help make Abu Dhabi a hub in robotics technology,” H.E. Dr. Al Khaili said. Workshops were held for teachers in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region over the period of 2 complete months and it involved 400 participants. Plans for additional workshops and advanced courses in Lego Mindstorms are scheduled for early 2011. |
