Success Of Yas Island Show Weekends 2010 Culminates With Rocking Guns N’ Roses Finale

Over 21,000 see rock legends at the last Yas Island Show Weekend of 2010

The final weekend of Yas Island Show Weekends 2010 kicked off in spectacular fashion last night as international rockstars Guns N’ Roses, led by the legendary Axl Rose, brought Yas Arena to a standstill.

Performing some of their most celebrated hits such as Sweet Child O Mine, Paradise City, November Rain and Welcome to the Jungle, Axl and the band arrived on schedule and rocked the capacity crowd at Yas Arena for over two and a half hours, as Abu Dhabi celebrated the end of the first series of Yas Island Show Weekends.

Launched in November straight off the back of the excitement of Formula 1TM and Yasalam, the Yas Island Show Weekends has been a huge success bringing thousands of people to Yas Island for headline concerts, community and sports events. Having welcomed The Jonas Brothers, Nelly Furtado, NBA legends at the NBA Jamfest, David Guetta, Dizzee Rascal and others for Creamfields Abu Dhabi 2010 and now Guns N’ Roses, Yas Island is well on its way to establishing its place as one of the region’s leading destinations for live entertainment.

A variety of free community events and unbelievable sold out hotel deals for each weekend, meant people could keep the party going all weekend, every weekend. As well as break dancing workshops from Bboy group Mighty4, graffiti displays by international graffiti artist Inkie, Acrodunk basketball stunts and cartoon parades – the community events were at the heart of Yas Island Show Weekends, keeping Yas Island alive with unique activities for all age-groups.

Lee Charteris, Director of Operations at FLASH Entertainment, said: “Organising five action-packed weekends of world class entertainment in such a short space of time was a fantastic challenge never attempted before in the Middle East. We are delighted to have seen thousands of people visit the island each weekend to enjoy the shows.”

Yas Island Show Weekends will continue in 2011 with more international stars and exciting free community events for the whole family to enjoy.

Look out for further announcements on the 2011 programme.
