ADEC Announces The Readiness Of 57Abu Dhabi Schools Within The ICT Infrastructure Project

Abu Dhabi Education Council started the handing over process of 57 schools within the massive project for developing ICT infrastructure in Abu Dhabi schools which targets 300 public schools across the Emirate. Costing AED 350 m, the project is a strategic initiative aiming at providing school community, including students, teachers and staff with the latest ICT infrastructure. The project is led and managed by Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) who leveraged Cisco Advanced Services to implement the network solutions.

Mohammad Younis, ADEC’s ICT Division Manager said that the project has faced many challenges during the initial phase, especially in terms of time factor, where teams are making great efforts to deliver the remaining number of schools over the coming period according to the project schedule. “This project will provide students, teachers, educators and administrative staff with the opportunity to explore new & innovative methods aiming to improve the educational process and enhance teaching & learning practices”, he added.

Mr. Younis emphasized that the initial phase of the project includes fitting schools with a high bandwidth structured cabling and wire management solution that serve as the foundation for all data, voice, closed circuit TV, access control and Audio visual systems. Once a school is fitted with the structured cabling system, networking active components are placed and commissioned. This includes all the switching, routing, wireless and security devices. Etisalat teams work in parallel to provide every school with internet and WAN connectivity based on MPLS technology.

In the final phase of the project, each school is provided with the necessary servers that provide basic local services to end users. A central datacenter is equipped to host and manage the entire network and provide fast and secure access to various applications. The datacenter is also equipped with the necessary tools so all active components including desktops are proactively monitored and managed from a central location with minimum human intervention.
