Gonzalez Joins Abu Dhabi Ace List

Argentine Sinks Second Hole-in-One of Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship

Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez scored the second hole-in-one of the 2011 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship today, following Dane Søren Kjeldsen’s opening day ace on Thursday.

Gonzalez, a four-time European Tour winner, holed the fifth hole-in-one in the Abu Dhabi event’s six-year history on the par-3 seventh hole.

"When I stood on the tee, I wasn’t sure what to hit - I thought a 6-iron but my caddy said 5. I went with the 5 and hit it with a little fade,” said Gonzalez, who carded a round of 68. “When I saw it go in, I was very happy. I had a good round, I’m feeling great and that shot has given me a lot of confidence for the weekend."

Gonzalez’s historic six-iron swing marked the first time the championship, which runs until Sunday January 23 and includes six of the world’s top 10 players, has witnessed two holes-in-one in the same year.

“With our strongest-ever field, Abu Dhabi galleries have a real treat this year and the two hole-in-ones are the talk of The National Course – it really is a tremendous achievement,” said Faisal Al Sheikh, Events Manger, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority – the event organiser.
