UAE Cultural Convoy 2011 To Begin In Marfaa, Western Region

Ministry of Culture hosts 71 social, health and recreational activities in cooperation with other ministries, government and private departments.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development (MCYCD) is preparing to launch the UAE Cultural Convoys’ initiative for the year 2011.

The first of the convoys will be held in Marfaa, in the Western Region, Abu Dhabi. The Ministry is organising this initiative for the second year, following the good response the convoys received in the previous edition. As part of the programme, the Ministry will be hosting more than 71 activities on February 3 and 4, with broad participation from other government and private bodies.

The third coordination meeting was held at the Ministry of Culture, Dubai, attended by the heads of departments and cultural centers to discuss new plans for the convoys and review the most important cultural activities and events that have been added to schedule of events and activities for the year 2011.

Afraa Al Sabri, the Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services said: "The cultural convoy initiative organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development embodies our leaders’ call for social national cohesion and promotes cultural and social awareness across the country. The convoys communicate with people in the remote areas of the country and aim to create a complementary environment that builds up the principle of common national identity.”

"The convoy will stay for two days in each region as in last year’s programme. There will be poetry, cultural evenings and dialogue sessions between the convoy and the people of the region, in addition to awareness and family guidance and heritage competitions, concerts and other general awareness programs that support and promote cultural and community values,” Al Sabri added.

Al Sabri said the Ministry has developed a plan for cultural convoys this year that focus on programs to discover talent and raise the cultural and community level among the people of remote areas. This year, the Ministry has attracted the participation of over 70 government and private bodies following the successful convoys of the first edition.
