The event comes within the activities of the Studies Directorate which cover vital sectors and key activities such as industry, which plays a directly in the private sector in the development process. The seminar emphasizes the current pattern of development in the emirate; and highlights some of the opportunities and challenges, which if properly harnessed and handled will further boost the ongoing development efforts and enhance Abu Dhabi status in the next stage.

The seminar addresses the opportunities and challenges faced by the waste recycling industry in the emirate, as part of the commitment of the Department of Economic Development to support the efforts that contribute to the surge of the emirate to adopt "sustainable development" as the slogan for the next phase. This highlights the importance of early preparedness to deal with all the idle capacities in the national economy, to achieve economic goals, taking into account all dimensions.

According to the Studies Directorate, the seminar focus on the recycling industry stems from the spreading call for preservation of the environment on the one hand and create and nurture a new industry which will to contribute to the national economy and the other hand; and offer solutions to problems caused by other contemporary industries.

A careful review of some aspects of the economic and social life in Abu Dhabi reveals that there are unutilized and insufficiently exploited potentials and capacities, which require introducing advanced technology, development of the role of the private sector and raising awareness of people.
