Abu Dhabi In-Flight Catering Records 17.4 Per Cent Increase In Production During 2010

Abu Dhabi In-flight Catering Company (ADIFC) today announced the company’s performance for 2010, recording 17.4 percent increase in production compared to 2009.

This was mainly achieved due to the traffic growth witnessed at Abu Dhabi International Airport with the increased number of airlines, flight frequencies and destinations served at the capital’s airport.

Throughout the year, ADIFC, wholly owned by Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) produced an average of 24,000 meals per day, reaching a total of 8.763 million meals, a 17.4 percent increase from 2009. By the end of 2010, the company had catered to a total of 49,649 flights.

ADIFC supplies more than 50 airlines and provides cuisine services to several hotels and premium lounges across the emirate. Production rates reached an all-time high in November during the Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit, when ADIFC produced over 33,000 airline meals in one day with an additional 40 tonnes of food supplied to external customers, in the hospitality industry, over the course of the 3 day event.

Huraiz bin Huraiz, Chief Commercial Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports Company, commented "This has been an incredible year for ADIFC, particularly following its record-breaking performance in November 2010 during the Formula One. With As Abu Dhabi International Airport grows with new airlines, routes, and flight frequencies, we look forward to another successful year in 2011." ADIFC expansion plans will increase the company’s design capacity from 28,000 meals per day to 62,000 meals per day. These plans will include the expansion of the cold storage space, loading bays, dish washing capacity, food preparation and cold kitchen areas as well as providing more space for staff transportation, staff changing rooms and canteen facilities to accommodate the growing work force.
