Sharjah Museums Department Receives Media Delegation At Sharjah Museum Of Islamic Civilization And Sharjah Maritime Museum











As part of its participation in the Government Communication Forum, organized by Sharjah Media Centre (SMC), the Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) hosted SMC Director Osama Samra, guests of honour, senior media speakers and a number of journalists and participants in the forum, at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization.

The delegates were received by Manal Ataya, Director General of Sharjah Museums Department, curators of museums and a number of administrators. They were taken on a tour of the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization and Sharjah Maritime Museum.

The visit came after the conclusion of the first day’s sessions of the forum at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The delegates were received at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization by the Curator of the Museum, who took them on a tour of the museum’s six halls featuring 5,000 impressive masterpieces and precious artifacts on the history, culture and art of the Muslim world that date back to various Islamic ages spanning 1,400 years.

On the second leg of the tour, the delegation visited Sharjah Maritime Museum to get more insight into the UAE’s national and marine heritage where they viewed more than 670 masterpieces that date back to 7,000 years. The delegates toured the Museum’s main hall which houses different models of traditional ships, such as Al Samaa, the biggest diving ship, as well as pearls, boat building and diving tools.

They stressed the Importance of the visit as it has contributed significantly to enhancing their knowledge and experiences about the importance of museums in promoting Sharjah on the global level.

The visitors were also informed about the Museum’s message of raising the public awareness about the emirate’s precious treasures and rich heritage, as well as the outstanding efforts it makes to convey this message by the adoption of various initiatives, programs and activities to achieve its goals.

At the end of the tour, a dinner banquet was held in honor of the delegation.

Speaking on the occasion, Manal Ataya SMD Director General, said the UAE’s rational leadership always emphasizes the importance of enhancing and activating the government communication at all local, regional, Arab and international levels.

"The Sharjah Museums Department, guided by the wise directives of the country’s leadership, seeks to develop communication systems as per the best international standards so as to further enhance the emirate’s reputation in global arenas," she said.

Manal said that the Department has dedicatedly worked to establish partnerships with the media from around the world to serve the culture, history and the cultural heritage in a manner that would contribute to recognizing the longstanding reputation of Sharjah as the Capital of Arab and Islamic culture.

The Department strives to continuously communicate with the media community through social networking sites as well as through print, audio and visual media, she added.

On his part, Osama Samra, said: "Sharjah is the emirate of cultural creativity as it was and still is a destination and home to literary figures, theatrical actors, thinkers, intellectuals, poets and artists." Highlighting the SMD’s crucial role in enhancing the emirate’s cultural and historical position, Samra lauded SMD’s great efforts and policies that aim to consolidate Sharjah’s cultural status in the region by organizing various events and activities throughout the year. He thanked the Museums Department for the good hospitality and the orientation tours which contributed to giving the delegates a deep sight into the emirate’s history and heritage .
