Sharjah Museums Department Observes World Health Day


Free medical tests at Sharjah Science Museum










As part of its social responsibility initiative "Because We Care", Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) celebrated World Health Day at Sharjah Science Museum with a special programme which began yesterday (Thursday) and will continue until (Friday), 13 April, from 4-8pm.

SMD announced that organizing this programme is aimed at enhancing health culture and raising health awareness among all members of the community. The Department organized many activities to mark World Health Day, as the medical team at Ajman Specialized Hospital participated in conducting free medical screening to testfor diabetes and blood pressure, as well as measuring body weight.

As part of the World Health Day’s program, B-Visors Company and Sharjah University organized awareness lectures on the early detection of chronic diseases, treatment methods ,and the importance Vitamin B12, in addition to a lecture on how to treat affected children.

Dubai Health Authority also participated in the event by educating participants on the food pyramid, the importance of healthy food, and its effects on the rate of child growth, while Sharjah Centre held a lecture on oral health that included important information on how to get healthy teeth for life .The Sharjah Municipality also had an important contribution to the program where the Head of the Health Education Department gave a Lecture (Hazardous games to children), in addition to the distribution of awareness publications and procures.

As part of the program, a show on the art of karate was demonstrated by Al Harith Private Centre under the supervision of Captain Mohammed Fawzi. Workshops were also organized for both minors and senior people, such as the workshop, "My Health is My Way for a Better Healthier Life."

Speaking on the occasion, Manal Ataya, Director General of Sharjah Museums Department, said: "World Health Day celebrations in the country represent a call for collective solidarity to increase health awareness in order to protect people health, raise awareness about health challenges facing the community and to educate the society about the proper ways to find health solutions that reflect positively on the health of individuals and the community as a whole."

She emphasized that the event comes as part of the initiatives launched by the Department and mirror its great interest in sponsoring diverse social responsibility programs. Ataya thanked government departments and health bodies as well as organizers of the event and all those who sought to spread health awareness among all members of the community.
