Jebel Ali Customs Centres Management at Dubai Customs organized five auctions during 2016 to sell different goods that were either abandoned by importers or detained by customs officials. Dubai Customs, represented by the Jebel Ali Customs Centres Management, organised these auctions in cooperation with DP World. The goods were sold at more than AED 26 million which means a big increase over 2015’s auction value that totalled around AED 7 million from 6 auctions.
Yousef Al Hashmi, Director of Jebel Ali Customs Centres Management at Dubai Customs said:
“Two auctions were held at Port Rashid with around AED 9 million in sales, and 3 auctions took place at Jebel Ali with more than AED 17 million in sales, compared to 5 auctions organized at Jebel Ali Centres in 2015 with sales of AED 5.5 million.
“The auctions are always held in a transparent way following the legal procedures under the terms 171 and 166 of the GCC unified customs law. All auctions are advertised on newspapers and clients are notified through SMS. Bidders can view the goods before they bid on them.
“2016 auctions saw a better turnout with more than 1450 bidders, which means a 33% increase over 2015 where 1091 bidders took part” Al Hashmi explained.
Different items were sold in the auctions including foodstuffs, furniture, used cars, new and used clothes, electrical appliances, steel pipes, coal, plywood, shoes, household items, spare parts, wood, and carpets.
