Hamdan bin Mohammed meets members of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment

Dubai Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said that women in UAE enjoy full government support, which stems from the directives of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the close follow up of Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces HH General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Sheikh Hamdan also said that the UAE leadership also ensure to provide women the right ingredients of success to positively serve the society, hence, open the door for women to reach highest positions.
 
Sheikh Hamdan’s remarks came during his meeting with members of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment, which takes place for the first time the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, in Dubai from 6th to 7th February.
 
The meeting was attended by members of the panel including, Vice-President of the United Republic of Tanzania Suluhu Hassan, HE Najla Al Awar. Minister of Community Development, HE Jameela Al Muhairi, Minister of State for Public Education, HE Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of Federal National Council Affairs, and Vice President of the UAE Gender Balance Council Mona Ghanem Al Marri.

Sheikh Hamdan also noted that the UAE’s leadership focus on activating various channels of partnership and collaborations with all international parties in charge of women empowerment. “We are keen on building bridges with all parties that work on providing a decent life for women regionally and globally, which is part of the UAE’s government agenda,” His Highness said.
 
Sheikh Hamdan also said that the UAE constitution states that women have the same rights and obligations like men. Hence, the participation of women and men in the country’s economic development is an obligation, whereas the distinction at work is determined by their ability in innovate and be creative to achieve the objective.
 
 
Sheikh Hamdan praised the efforts of the United Nations in term of increasing women participation in the economy and empowerment. He reiterated that the UAE will continue its effort to promote the development of women and enhance gender equality and will offer its experience and achievements in this regard.

Members of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment expressed their cordial thanks to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and to UAE and its people for their warm welcome and generosity, lauding the county’s distinguished experience in women's empowerment and gender equality and the relentless global efforts in this field. They further expressed their keenness to enhance cooperation in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The meeting was also attended by Alejandra MORA Mora Costa Rica’s Minister of Women's Issues, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women (South Africa), Simona Scarpaleggia, CEO of IKEA Switzerland, Alicia Girón González, Professor at the Economic Research Institute of the National University of Mexico, Amadou Mahtar Ba Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of AllAfrica Global Media (Senegal), Elizabeth A. Vazquez President, CEO and Co-Founder of WEConnect International (USA), Fiza Farhan CEO of Buksh Foundation and Director Buksh Energy (Pakistan), Renana Jhabvala President of Self-Employed Women’s Association (India), and Tina Fordham managing director and chief global political analyst at Citi (UK).
 
On the sideline of UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment meeting, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan met with members of the UAE Gender Balance Council, in the presence of H.E. Mona Ghanem Al Marri, where he praised the efforts made by the council in organizing the meeting. Present during the meeting were: H.E. Dr. Abdul Rahim Yousef Al Awadi, Assistant Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs, H.E. Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Director-General of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority, H.E. Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Women's Union, H.E. Huda Al Hashimi, Assistant Director General for Strategy & Innovation - Prime Minister's Office, H.E. Reem Abdullah Eisa Al Falasi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, H.E. Sana Suhail, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Community Development and H.E. Shamsa Saleh, Secretary General of the Council.
