H.E. Sultan bin Sulayem: ’Maritime Dubai’ to boost emirate’s global status and highlight role as major player in global maritime economy
As part of the ongoing initiatives to cement Dubai’s leadership in the global maritime map, the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has launched its new ‘Maritime Dubai’ initiative. Placed under the management of ‘Dubai Maritime Cluster Office,’ the initiative seeks to sustain the local maritime sector’s exceptional achievements and lay the foundation for a new phase of development based on ambitious vision to promote Dubai as a maritime gateway to regional and global trades.
H.E. Sultan Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and President of DMCA, said: “‘Maritime Dubai’ reflects our success and leadership in creating an excellent and integrated maritime sector to push for Dubai’s economic and cultural ambitions in accordance with the vision and directions of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. Through this new initiative, we are moving closer to our goals of making the emirate a key maritime center for global trade and consolidating its role as a major player in the international maritime economy.”
The ‘Maritime Dubai’ initiative serves as one of the cornerstones for establishing an independent and unique local maritime sector. It provides an integrated platform that incorporates all elements and components of Dubai’s maritime clustering, including ship owners, ports, docks, logistics, arbitration, maritime classification, licensing, financing and maritime training, and maritime policies. Additionally, the initiative facilitates coordination among government entities, national, regional and international maritime organizations, and free zones.
‘Maritime Dubai’ also focuses on encouraging members to engage in new businesses through trade promotion; attracting more foreign ships owners, operators and shippers to Dubai; promoting the emirate as a global center for maritime training; facilitating communication mechanisms for all stakeholders; and organizing international events to keep all stakeholders up-to-date with the latest maritime developments and information.
With the initiative’s launching, DMCA has made a major step towards developing a safe and sustainable maritime sector that will help catapult Dubai into the ranks of the world’s outstanding maritime capitals. The Dubai Maritime Cluster Office oversees the initiative’s implementation along with the enforcement of Dubai Maritime Sector Strategy’s (MSS) key elements. MSS is designed to make Dubai one of the world’s major maritime centers. ‘Maritime Dubai’ will be launched internationally in the next edition of Nor-Shipping exhibition in Norway.
