RTA extends deadline for participation in DAST to November 15th |

The Higher Organizing Committee of the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is pleased with numbers of nominations received so far from governmental and semi-governmental institutions as well as private companies from all over the UAE, for participating in the 9th edition of DAST. “To enrich the Award and avail the opportunity for additional nominations, the RTA opted for extending the deadline for receiving nominations from government and semi-government institutions as well as private companies in the UAE up to 15 November instead of 30 October 2016. The extension also comes in response to many requests from entities, institutions and companies interested in participating in the Award,” according to Nasir Hamad Bu Shehab, CEO of RTA’s Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector cum Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of DAST Bu Shehab announced that the Committee had accomplished a series of important stages and preparations for staging the 9th edition of the Award this year. Registration in various categories of DAST can be made online through the Award’s portal by following simple steps that save time and effort for participants. “Online registration enhances the smart government practices that Dubai government is keen to pursue to simplify transactions processing, bring happiness to participants and offer them smooth, enjoyable and beneficial experience,” he said. “From inception, the Higher Organizing Committee of DAST has been keen on advancing its business processes through aligning them with the massive improvement projects & initiatives rolled out by RTA. The Committee is also seeking to broaden the scope of participation in the Award to enable the largest possible number of government and semi-government organizations as well as private companies to contribute to the improvement of sustainable transport drive in the UAE, to further boost the efforts put by the RTA in this regard,” added Bu Shehab. “DAST is considered a practical manifestation of RTA’s strategy for realizing its vision of providing Safe and Smooth Transport for All in keeping with the development taking place in the Emirate of Dubai in various business, economic, tourist, and real estate sectors among others. This initiative is a key step in involving the business sector as well as government and semi-government organizations to support of RTA’s efforts aimed at achieving integration of various modes of public transportation,” he continued. “RTA, launching this Award, intends to hit several targets including educating & encouraging individuals and social organizations to play an active & positive role in supporting the fruition of RTA’s objectives of improving the infrastructure and means of public transport, and showcasing the leading role played by the RTA in bolstering the partnership & cooperation between various entities & strategic partners in the field of transport, safety and conserving the environment. Objectives sought by the RTA through the Award also include highlighting the importance of sustainable transport to make it part of the main concerns of various business organizations, raising the awareness, sense of responsibility and the initiative spirit amongst various community segments particularly firms and establishments, and fostering successful initiatives in the fields of mobility, safety and environment. The RTA is also concerned with promoting such initiatives within the business community, motivating the creativity, pioneering spirit & initiatives in a host of mobility aspects to maximize the benefit of all parties,” he further added. The Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of DAST called upon the business sector in the UAE including government, semi-government as well as private companies, to submit their nominations for the Award ASAP, following the deadline extension up to November 15th. It is worth mentioning that DAST spans four main categories namely, Transport Management Award aimed at adopting proved & tested practices & initiatives that contributed to leveraging the efficiency of using transit modes of different types; Safe Mobility Award pertaining to initiatives and practices capable of improving the safety and security for users of various transit modes; Environment Conservation Award, which involves all practices and initiatives capable of reducing the negative impacts of transportation on environment, and the Disabled Persons Initiatives Award. The special categories include 4 awards, they are: Best Academic Research Award for academicians who developed the best research in sustainable transport, and the award is open to all community segments provided that they follow the terms of scientific research. The second is the Best Student Project Award which is concerned with the best project prepared by a student in the field of sustainable transport including all students of educational institutions all over the UAE. The third is the Best Journalist Award targeting journalists who made the best media coverage for sustainable transport throughout the UAE. The fourth and the last is the Best Media Team Award for the best media team who made the best media coverage in sustainable transport throughout the UAE.
