The Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) has remarkably grabbed public attention through its 41 smart, highly-innovative initiatives showcased at Gitex 2016.
The PCFC’s stalls at the 36th edition of the Middle East’s leading technology event were like a beehive over the past five days, buzzing with keen dignitaries and curious visitors and experts desiring to catch their first glimpse of what the government corporation has brought out of the box.
Several official delegations of government stakeholders, strategic partners and business community also came to check on PCFC’s newly-unveiled developments and projects, as it continues to step up smart transformation drive across all its related industries of customs, trade and logistics, ports operation, free zones, maritime services, and infrastructure development.
The 2016 Gitex Technology Week, which ran from 16th to 20th October, hosted a unified platform bringing together under one roof all of PCFC’s six entities, namely Dubai Customs, Department of Planning and Development (Trakhes), DP World, Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), Dubai Maritime City Authority, and Dubai Trade. The combined stand set up within Dubai Smart Government pavilion showed visitors how PCFC is “Delivering the Future” via a broad range of innovation-led initiatives and services geared at serving the best interest of clients, traders and investors locally and worldwide.
The day one of the 5-day-long exhibition was marked by Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s official launch of the pioneering Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program of Dubai Customs. Other sheikhs, government officials and dignitaries also flocked to the booths of PCFC, notably Ajman Crown Prince H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, and Chairman of Ajman Municipality H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, who both expressed admiration for the ground-braking initiatives and high-tech solutions introduced at the stand.
“The stunning participation of the entities under Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation allowed visitors of Gitex to explore and experience some top quality initiatives that seek to sustain national economy and reinforce Dubai’s happiest and smartest city aspirations,” said Khalil Saqer bin Gharib, Director of Dubai Customs Corporate Communication Department, Director of PCFC stand at Gitex 2016.
He noted that Dubai Customs presented 8 happiness-led initiatives and innovations: The Authorized Economic Operator, Smart Workspace, Smart Inspection Glasses, Smart Inspection Lab, Smart Virtual Agent, Smart Customs Route, Bags Smart Customs Inspection System and Endangered Species Exhibition.
Meanwhile, DP World displayed Reefer Function Robot, a smart mobile robot that navigates reefer stacks and is able to plug and unplug power cables to the refer container, allowing employees to monitor the operations remotely and send various commands to the robot to be processed, which improves operational efficiency, safety and the working environment. In addition, DP World also unveiled other initiatives such as Virtual Reality Video, Warehouse Function Robots, Quay Crane Commander Game, and Drones.
Jafza shared smart introductions including Jafza Smart Gates, Energy Saving, Jafza Mobile App, iJafza, Jafza sites Monitoring with Drones, Mawardi, and Virtual Tour.
On the other hand, Trakhes demonstrated a set of innovative initiatives, specifically NOC Services, Commercial Permits, Commericial Licensing Services, Government Visa Services, OFC/NAV Services, EHS Construction Permit Services, Civil Engineering Accreditation Services, Civil Engineering Permit Services, Finance Services, Mobile Website, and Trakhes Website.
Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCC) uncovered new initiatives and applications including Smart Exam, Dubai Maritime Intelligence, Smart Inspector, Smart DMCA, Smart Customer, and Smart Marine Traffic.
Dubai Trade, on its part, took part at the exhibition with two ambitious initiatives: Land Transportation Management System and Warehouse Booking System.
