MBRSC Participates at GITEX Technology Week 2016

MBRSC Showcases its Clean Room, Space Applications and Educational Initiatives at GITEX

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) participates at Gitex 2016, the most important event in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the Middle East. MBRSC will present the exhibition's visitors with a vivid experience of the Clean Room used for manufacturing satellites in the Space Technologies Laboratories at MBRSC, Dubai. It will also showcase space technologies developed at the centre, as well as awareness raising and educational initiatives for school and college students. These include the NanoSatellite Outreach Program (NSOP), the nano-satellite project Nayif-1, Red Planet Magazine, Year of Reading initiative and Majarat Magazine, a scientific magazine dedicated to space science and technology.

On the Innovation Zone, MBRSC's engineers will actually work inside a model of the clean room in which KhalifaSat is currently being manufactured. The clean room is designed according to specific standards in terms of humidity, temperature and dust, where users must abide by the certain rules to have access to it.

On the Government to Government Zone, MBRSC will also present analytical reports of specific areas in the UAE to monitor the progress in the infrastructure including buildings and the road networks, in addition to detecting changes in vegetation and water resources in specific locations using both built-in and commercial tools and applications. On the same zone, engineers will explain how MBRSC's space technologies are used, such as SAFIY project, a smart application for feature extraction and 3D modeling using high-resolution images captured by DubaiSat-2, and Coast Extraction Application, for coastline extraction using remote sensing and image processing technologies.

Furthermore, MBRSC will brief the visitors on the Education Zone about its educational initiatives, namely the nano-satellite project Nayif-1 and the NanoSatellite Outreach Program (NSOP), which aims to develop the necessary human infrastructure for the space sector in universities.

H.E. Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, Director General of MBRSC said: "MBRSC's participation in GITEX Technology Week 2016 is in line with the directives aiming at raising awareness of using space technologies in supporting critical and developmental projects in the UAE". He also stressed that space technologies play a supportive role in the smart transformation journey through remote sensing technology, space applications and satellite projects developed and operated by the Space Centre.

"All applications, programs and projects aim at providing information on various infrastructure as well as vegetation and water resources, and this will save a lot of effort and time. MBRSC shall systematically endeavor to develop space industry and sciences, serving the UAE and reflecting its strategic planes." Al Shaibani concluded.
