Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has honoured sponsors and supporters of the 18th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2016). DEWA organises WETEX under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA, from 4-6 October 2016 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The ceremony at Madinat Jumeirah, was attended by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, Founder and Chairman of WETEX, Executive Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents of DEWA, a number of officials from the public and private sectors, the media, sponsors and supporters of WETEX, and a large number of exhibitors.
In his speech, Al Tayer thanked the sponsors and supporters, and DEWA’s partners from the public and private sectors from around the world for sponsoring and supporting WETEX and for their efforts, which have contributed to making WETEX a global specialised exhibition. He also thanked the media for their role in supporting WETEX.
“It’s my pleasure to celebrate the success of the 18th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2016, and the first Dubai Solar Show, which DEWA is organising in light of solar energy’s significant developments worldwide, and especially in the Middle East. This makes the show an ideal platform for the organisations, companies and industry professionals in solar energy,” said Al Tayer.
Dubai has a clear strategy for sustainable development based on the vision by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. In Dubai and the UAE, government and private organisations are working together to turn this vision into reality, thanks to their close cooperation. HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has said that “Working as a team, everybody takes part in building the UAE.” At DEWA, we make sure that our partners have this spirit: a spirit of teamwork and partnership that achieves the ultimate goal we all work to achieve. We all work for the happiness of individuals and society as a whole, and to enhance the status of the UAE, and increase its global competitiveness. Successful partnerships are not intended to achieve individual successes, they make collective achievements that benefit everyone,” added Al Tayer.
Al Tayer noted that DEWA works with local and international partners from the public and private sectors, in most of its major projects. One of the major projects DEWA is implementing in collaboration with the private sector is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is the largest single-site solar park in the world. It will produce 5,000MW of electricity by 2030. The Solar Park supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to provide 7% of Dubai's energy output from clean energy sources by 2020, 25% by 2030, and 75% by 2050.
“In light of the ambitious vision and development in general, which is translated into major projects and promising opportunities, especially in energy, water, and the environment, the cooperation and integration between the public and private sectors has become the foundations for the success of Dubai’s plans for the future. This strengthens Dubai’s position as an advanced model that provides the right environment for supporting investment. We gather tonight to celebrate our joint achievements. The success of WETEX is success for DEWA, and the sponsors, partners, supporters, and exhibitors. It is another proof of the commitment of Dubai and the UAE to achieve a green economy and sustainable development. The growth of WETEX over the past eighteen years also reflects the success of regional and global efforts in supporting green technologies and solutions that contribute to achieving sustainability. WETEX has become an important platform for green solutions, and a venue for organisations and companies to promote their businesses, products, and latest technologies. WETEX is also a meeting point for experts, specialists, and people who want to share best practices and experiences in energy, water, and green economy from around the world,” noted Al Tayer.
Al Tayer noted that WETEX has been growing year on year, attracting more sponsors, partners, specialists, experts and governments. It is also expanding in scope to include more topics, including renewable energy technologies, environment-friendly appliances, water technologies, environmental sustainability, and the latest technologies that keep pace with rapid developments. WETEX also looks at the best solutions and practices to face environmental challenges. This year's event has attracted 1,900 exhibitors from 46 countries. It is expected that over 23,000 visitors will visit the three-day exhibition.
WETEX 2016 has over 60 sponsors. Because of the increasing demand for participation in the exhibition, space has been expanded to cover 63,700 square metres, while the Dubai Solar Show covers 13,000 square metres.
“Your efforts and sponsorship of WETEX, and your partnership with DEWA, has contributed to reinforcing WETEX’s position as one of the largest specialist exhibitions in the world. Your participation has also proved that you are committed to supporting sustainable development and accelerating the shift towards a green economy, not only in the region, but around the world,” concluded Al Tayer.
