RTA all set for announcing winners of traffic contest "Innovation Journey"

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started sorting and assessing submissions received for the traffic contest branded the “Innovation Journey” launched in conjunction with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation and targeted university students. RTA has received scores of nominations from university students in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman before the deadline of early May last, and will announce winners this July.

Engineer Metha bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic & Roads Agency said: “This contest is part of RTA’s innovation strategy endorsed by the Board of Executive Directors under the chairmanship of HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA. Based on the three pillars of leadership, superiority and impact, the strategy aims at empowering the RTA to generate innovative & inspiring ideas over the short & long run. The innovation methodology of RTA focuses on improving its services to bring a value-added for all community segments, especially in the field of transportation in which RTA is seeking to assume a pioneering role worldwide.

“The competition has achieved the expected objectives up to this stage preceding the announcement of winners. Student contributions are bound to make genuine innovative additions to the traffic movement in Dubai and related issues. The contest seeks to nurture a culture of thinking & innovation; which in turn will enrich RTA’s strategy in keeping pace with the directives of our government. Participation in the contest motivates university students to think and research a challenging traffic issue and come up with appropriate solutions.

“Targeting university students underlines an effort to encourage & engage this vital community segment in generating innovative ideas, particularly as government entities are required to care and lead these resources in the right direction. The Agency has therefore provided all means of success for the contest through making field visits to universities, distributing printed materials, and establishing an online link to explain the contest and receive nominations (www.rta.ae/innovationjourney).

“The assessment & sorting committee includes representatives from RTA, Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, and several universities. The Agency has allocated a cash prize of AED10,000 (Ten Thousand Dirham) to the winner, AED7,000 (Seven Thousand Dirham) to the runner-up, and AED5,000 (Five Thousand Dirham) to the third-place finisher. In the foreseeable future, the Agency would focus on adopting new techniques in communicating with the targeted audience of youth of students in universities and schools,” added Metha.
