The UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia)’s board of trustees held its 7th meeting at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s headquarters. Suqia is one of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives. The meeting was chaired by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the board of trustees of Suqia, and attended by HE Humaid Rashid Al Shamsi, Deputy Secretary General of the Emirates Red Crescent for international aid and Vice Chairman of the Board at Suqia, HE Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al Baili, Deputy Vice Chairman for Academic Affairs and Provost of United Arab Emirates University, HE Dr Arif Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President of Khalifa University, Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Business Development at DEWA, Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia, and Fahad Abdullah bin Afira Al Falasi, Acting Secretary of the board of trustees of Suqia.
Al Tayer welcomed the attendees, and stressed the importance of increasing efforts during the Holy Month of Ramadan, to provide meals and water for people in need. Al Tayer noted that the UAE is the capital of good deeds and humanitarian initiatives, and commended the UAE people on their generosity and efforts to contribute.
“UAE Water Aid adheres to the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and his commitment towards helping the underprivileged all over the world, while providing the most vital source of life. The generous people of the UAE have actively contributed to the success of our humanitarian and charitable initiatives. The people of the UAE possess the right mentality and principles; this has become part of the culture in the UAE. HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum once said:
“Brothers and sisters, Sheikh Zayed's name has become synonymous with generosity and giving, not only in the UAE, but in the whole world,” said Al Tayer.
“During the meeting, we discussed a number of campaigns to promote the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and worth USD 1 million. We continuously study the latest developments and updates in regard to the award, with the aim of promoting it at international events. This is part of our efforts to fulfill the country’s vision to build a knowledge-based economy, with a focus on technology, research, development, and innovation,” added Al Tayer.
During Ramadan, we strive to create image that enhances the position of the UAE and Dubai as a capital of good deeds and giving. Suqia also distributes 8 million cups in cooperation with 14 charitable organisations and communities in the UAE,” said Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia.
During the meeting, the board reviewed and approved the report from the previous meeting, and addressed the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Water Award. The board also discussed the awards media plan, a competition to design its logo, and a campaign to raise money to provide cups of water during Ramadan.
